Motorcyle side trips from Rome or Florence help

Message: Any thoughts on renting a motorcycle from Rome or Florence for excursions?
I would like to travel the country side on a MC. Any suggested routes that would be 2 hrs or less one way? I picture a great ride in the country/last week in April/ 1st week in May.
Do I really need an international license or will my US one be OK?
How can I get tickets for an audience with the new Pope? (If there is a new Pope by then)
Can someone offer names of 50 Euro (or so) rooms, convents, or B&B close to the Vatican, town of Florence and Venice?
It appears lots of (older)women are going solo, I'm hoping I won't feel out of place. Lots of questions I know. This is my 1st trip alone. Travelling from USA. Thank you.

Are you an experienced motorcyclist or are you attempting suicide?

There is an article in the May Issue of Bon Appetite about renting scooters etc in Italy.

Thanks for my Sunday morning laugh, I can picture you chugging along in a sea of older women on motorcycles.

Wear some arch supporters in sensible, clunky motorcycle boots and you will feel right in place!.

Thanks Ira and Scarlett.
I do have experience and own a MC. I gather the city driving would be a suicide attempt. But what about side trips, they OK? Thanks for B&B referral. I appreciate any and ALL help because this is my first venture.

SeaUrchin, thank YOU for my Sunday laugh..the picture of a "sea of older women, chugging long with sensible boots on" made me laugh so hard the Yankee had to come check to see what was so funny..and then he laughed too
makthpn,
I am glad you already own a bike and know how to drive one..I have heard that biking in the countryside is a bit easier, it is just getting Out of Town that is the hard part

Linda, Check out this website:
http://www.cimt.it/motorcycle_rental_home.htm

I'm sure they would be very helpful at answering your license and experience/risk questions.
