As you enter LeBaux, just past the entry and on the opposite side of the visitors center there is a restautrant that has a wonderful little two level courtyard.

My wife and I sat there and managed to take about three hours for lunch while people watching and looking through a cutout in the wall down into the valley below.

Escargot, wonderful French bread, and rabbit in a brown sauce followed by chocolate mouse and washed down by two and one half bottles of Chateauneuo du Pape..a magnificent lunch and memory.

I have just finished reading this post, and I was reminded of the meal that I had at Claude Marco (Post by Luis) outside of Cahors. The food was divine, especially the fois gras specialities. The best meal I have had, however, was at Marc Veyrat's restaurant L'Auberge d'Eridan, outside of Annecy. We have a planned a trip to France in July and planned around a meal there. I went to the website and saw that the posted menu started at about $300 per person, without wine. Alas. We just can't do it. Can anyone recommend a fabulous restaurant in the Lake Annecy area? We'll be staying in Talloires.

Here is another good one!

In Gordes, we bought a couple of bottles of Chateauneuf du Pape, a bottle of French olive oil and olives, a hunk of goat cheese and ham and a couple of loaves of French bread.

Got in the car and drove up the hill past Gordes until we came tot a very sharp turn in the road. On one side was a couple of picnic tables and the other an overlook into the valley.

We ate our lunch on the table, using plastic Avian water bottles cut in 1/2 with a pocket knife for wine glasses.
Enjoyed the meal, the wine, the view each other and the folks driving by wishing they were us!

Barb70. Eridan was my all around fav for the whole package, that deck was amazing, I felt like I was on a deck of a fancy boat. I still have my menu of Feyat and the cover drawing of him in his shepherd's hat. BBUT that was a special occassion to celebrate our retirement, a once in lifetime kind of place. And like uncle sam, some of our best memories of dining are the same, going to the olive mill, the boulangerie, to the markets for the cheese and fruit, a thrill in the clear Provençal air.
The other place on Lahe Annecy I tike in Tailloires is Pere Bise. Checkout their lovely web site. We spent one of our nights there.

It had to be at the Hotel Chabrol in Brantome where went to celebrate our 40th anniversary. So delicious and so memorable was the meal and service that we will be back there in '05 for our 45th.

I think the cheese course at Astier in Paris...or the delicious tagine at Le Bleu Homme after a hamman.

A (most?) memorable meal in France was in a small restaurant in Paris. My wife ordered a filet, medium rare. It came out rare. I asked to have it done a little more. It came back, split, very well done. I don't know if it was done out of miscommunication, stupidity, or spite. But if you like your meat a certain way, don't depend on your Amrtican understanding of "doneness." Be more specific.

On a trip thru Burgundy, we ate at Le Esperance--chef Marc Menaeu (sp.)

2 star Michelin- the BEST dinner we have ever had-

fois gras encased in carmelized sugar-crystal clear- shaped like an egg and the SIZE of an egg- you actually had to crack open to get to the fois gras-TO DIE FOR appetizer--

7 courses for dinner with accompanying wines--( 2 dessert courses!!!)

Never in my entire life have I had a meal like that and probably never again...

WOULD I GO BACK-- YES_ in a heartbeat!!!

Mine was just this past week at Le Choiseul in Amboise; we had the complete asparagus menu, starting with asparagus for an appetizer, and ending with a strawberry tart with asparagus ice cream! It sounds awful, but the combination of flavors was wonderful!

For pure elegance and I would have to go with Boyer les Crayeres in Reims, however if I could beam myself somewhere right now it would be to Armand au Palais Royale in Paris.
