More things to do near Athens

We are staying in the Athens area for several days following a cruise of the Greek Islands. We already have a tour set up for the Parthenon, Cape Sounion, and other sites in Athens; going on a two day trek to Delphi and Meteora, and then a one day tour of the Argolis area. We still have one more day and we were thinking that going out on a smaller boat or going to the beach for the day might be fun. We don't want to spend hours riding ferries to nearby islands. Can anyone help? Do you know of any sailors out there that take tourists out for the day on their boats? I am looking for something like a shore excursion from a cruise like go out on a catamaran for the day and go snorkeling. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.
Thanks

I'll second that Hydra suggestion. Less than an hour by hydrofoil..and not an expensive trip. Beautiful island with no cars! Great harbor with tiny shops and cafes. Beautiful, but rocky, coastline with crystal clear water.

You can experience a traditional Greek environment where automobiles are not allowed, which contributes to its timelessness.

You will not find many "sights" on Hydra. But you will find beautiful white-washed homes and shops. Lots of winding, narrow, cobbled streets...great little harbor with small fishing boats and cafes. There is a fort you can climb up for a view. You can do some swimming off the island- but it is not a traditional beach...just a rocky cove.

Can you just go to the beach there, or do you need to stay at someplace like Roseys? Is there anywhere to rent snorkel equipment from?
