More Car Questions

We are renting Ford Focus through Carjet, we received via e-mail our car voucher and it stated that we were to go to Crown Hire but on the same form it stated there was the possibility of Hotel drop-off. Is this only for special hotels? Has any used this?? We booked through Carjet - downtown Seville location but we'll be staying at Hotel San Gil. I think it would be great to have the car dropped off, but does that mean they drop off the least attractive car on the lot to us and we have no choice of selecting diesel as the car's fuel.

Does anyone know if Ford Focus comes with diesel as an option?

Also does anyone know about the size of trunk for a Focus regarding suitcase sizes.

Finally, when driving as we will be for 2 weeks, will we be volunerable to break-in's if we left food and drinks in the backseat for having a picnic or snacking (i.e., when we stop in Merida on our way from Sevilla to Trujillo). Most of the time when check in, all our luggage will be stored in our room and we'll have room in the trunk, but I feel volunerable because some of the time we will have longer drives and we may stop to sight see. Incidentally, I am not referring to large cities (Merida, somewhere between Toledo and Jaen)

Any further suggestions or insight will be greatly appreciated.

2CdnMMs-

Hello,

For what it is worth, my wife and I just returned from two weeks in Spain. We picked up a rent car in Sevilla Santa Justa train station and proceeded to points south. I never had any problems with theft, and I left the vehicle in a car park over night (the only vehicle in the garage) no worries. The roads are top notch. In old town areas (Arcos, Granada) the streets may be narrow and steep. Street signs are located on the buildings and may be hard to spot. Have fun, it truly is a gem of a country.

I'm interested in any replies received as well! My family and I are heading to Spain soon and will also be staying at the San Gil. We have five people, though, and so will have to have a minivan yikes! Anyway, looking forward to being there! I've driven there before, although not in the city of Seville itself, it's supposed to be horrible, but the rest is easy and I had no problems, even as a single girl driving! Enjoy!

There is nothing wrong with working with CarJet from what I know. As long as the price is right and the service is there if you need it, then you should use them. Service is a big issue, especially if something goes wrong on the road, that's why we tend to stick with Auto Europe, Avis, Hertz and Atesa for rentals.

I would image that there is a drop-off fee if it is dropped off at your hotel vs picking it up at their Seville location. You can insist on a diesel by not accepting a gas engine car. That's your choice if you've ordered a diesel. The Ford Focus has both diesel and gas engines. Either way, it's very comfortable, has a large trunk and is a good highway car, just slightly larger than the Megane Coupe. Of all of the compact cars in the rental fleets, these are the two we like the most for driving around Spain.

We where just in Extremadura in March and often left articles in the car in the smaller villages without worrying about anything, but you always have to be aware of where you are and try not to tempt someone by leaving anything of value in plain sight.

Note: Sevilla is drivable, but it can be busy at times and you should have a very good idea of where you want to go.
