Montpellier to St Remy
We're spending 2 nights in Montpellier and 7 in St Remy- sightseeing - and flying out of Marselille. For travel between these, which would recommend:
1 rent car in Montpellier and drive to St Remy and return car in Marseille
2 take train to Avignon, rent car in Avignon and drive to St. Remy and return to Marseille
Thanks for your advice.

well, I've rented or returned cars to all of those locations, so I would choose (1).
Just doesn't seem to make much sense to pay for a train fare to Avignon and then rent a car there, just to drive to St Remy when you can do that just as well in Montpellier. Getting out of Montpellier from the train station (where I rented my car in Montpellier) wasn't that difficult, but I think I had a map, of course. When I was there, it was even kind of torn up around the train station as they were doing a lot of construction, but that should be over by now. It's a big enough station and city that they should have plenty of car options -- I rent an automatic and had not trouble getting one there. I used Autoeurope.
Either way would work, I just don't see any reason to go to Avignon if you aren't staying there.

I agree with Christina - and I've rented cars at both locations too.
The only consideration might be where to rent a car in Montpellier - the train station or the airport. We picked up a car at the train station, and the selection of cars was very limited and we did not get the car we wanted - they substituted another car in the same "class". When we returned the car at the airport, they said that the selection was much larger at the airprt.

Thanks Christina and Stu - appreciate your advice. I probably was making things more complicated than necessary because we really love train travel. That will have to wait for another trip. Having a larger selection at the airport will be a plus, so thanks for that tip.
