Monoprix - 7th arrondisement

I have heard so much about this chain on this message board. Can someone tell me where a Monoprix is located in the 7th? I am interested in women's clothes and accesories ; don't want junk but don't want to blow my budget on 1 silk scarf either.
Also, anyone have strong opinions on the Tati stores?
Thanks, Kay

I needed to return something I had purchased in Dijon and looked for the Monoprix nearest to us at the Muguet. Finally found one on rue Commerce--and it was not particularly nice and it was a long way. There is one on the Champs Elysees that is open for very extended hours--not entirely sure where--the Commerce store recommended I go there for what I needed. Daughter got me a wonderful velour paisley scarf at the one near St. Germain which she said was a REALLY nice store. They are very good for grocery shopping and have darling children's things at good prices.

I hope someone else can help you out with the address of the Monoprix. I think it is off of boulevard st. germain but I don't exactly remember.
I was there last month and I don't think you will find too much in the way of women's clothes. You will find toiletries, chocolates, wine, a whole grocery store and anything you need that you might have forgotten to pack (e.g. a brush, umbrella, etc.).

Why not go directly to their website and find the store that closest to where you are staying? Here's the link:
http://www.monoprix.fr/prg_visu/page.html?cle_app=1691&cle_page=13483

The 7th is sort of a wasteland for that kind of thing -- there isn't one except on rue de Rennes just south of bd St-Germain, then the next closest is the one at Commerce as Gretchen mentions (which is the 15th). I haven't been in that one as I stay in Montparnasse/15th where there are many and some very good ones. I just looked a lot of them up as I'm planning to rent an apt in Paris this summer and want one near a Monoprix and these are the locations of most on the Left Bank:
5th arr:
13 av des Gobelins

6th arr: 50 rue Rennes
7th arr: none

13th arr: 83 av Italie, 42 r Daviel

14th arr: 129 rue Alesia, 8 av gen Leclerc, 117 rue Losserand, also Inno is the same company and is very similar, only larger, it is just SE of Montparnasse tower and huge)

15th arr: 2 rue Commerce, 19 rue Linois (near Charles Michels metro, that's a nice one), 105 rue de la Convention

The Rennes store being in St Germain has a nice, but small, clothing selection; otherwise, I'd suggest Inno in the 14th or the Beaugrenelle store on rue Linois as the closest (and I know both have good clothing selections) if Commerce is no good

There is one in the 4th...Marais. It was pretty decent. My friend bought a nice sweater there. Downstairs is the grocery store. It was big and had a good selection.

I shopped at the Monoprix on rue de Rennes when I stayed at Le Madison on Blvd. St.-Germain, but only for food in the grocery area on the basement level. As others have said, its really not that great for clothing. There are actually many smaller shops that sell clothing and shoes in that same area of the 7th that are better. I'd also recommend checking out Au Bon Marche, which is a very nice department store also in the 7th. As for Tati, I tended to find them kind of chaotic and disorganized, sort of a bargain basement kind of place. I stopped in one to buy an umbrella when I got caught in the rain one day, but I probably wouldn't shop there for clothing.

Actually, I don't suppose it matters unless you are looking stuff up by arr in the online phone book, but that Monoprix is not in the 7th, but the 6th (on Rennes); the border isn't until rue des Saints-Peres a couple blocks west. There used to be a Tati on that street way south, but it's gone and I don't think there's another one on the Left Bank -- I agree they aren't a good place to shop for clothing, anyway. I do have strong opinions, I dislike them and think they are really junky (only been in them twice, but that was enough).

I do like the accessories at Bon Marche in the 7th, if they were having a sale, you could get some decent prices. I don't think Monoprix usually would have expensive things like silk scarves, I only buy stuff there like sweaters or tote bags when I find I haven't packed something I need or the weather is different than I planned for. The stuff is okay, but I wouldn't consider it a special destination for shopping for anything I'd buy for any other reason than necessity.

kay,
I shopped at the Monoprix on Rue de Rennes, off Blvd. St. Germain in the 6th this week. We discovered it when we stayed last year at le Madison. I agree with Jayelle and Christina that it's not the place to look for a great selection of upscale women's clothing. We bought "drug store/five & dime" items there and lots of gourmet goodies in their downstairs supermarket (they even carry boxed gourmet food items from Fauchon and Maxim's and a nice selection of cheeses/pates/breads). For silk scarves, gloves, shoes and handbags, I shopped at Le Bon Marche at the end of the Rue de Bac in the 7th (metro: Sevres-Babylone). They have a beautiful selection of women's accessories, and luckily, many of the items had been reduced by 40%. thanks to the Jan. "soldes". All the shoes in their upstairs shoe department were on sale, and I did quite a bit of damage there, I'm afraid. When I want nice, special and distinctive accesories, le Bon Marche is where I look first on the Left Bank. To me it seems like a combination of Bloomiingdale's, Nordstrom and a bit of Neiman Marcus. Even during the famous sales, it wasn't at all chaotic and had plenty of sales people to give you personalized attention.

Auchan (they have a website and about 2 US stores) is also a good place to shop for cheap things and food.

There is a Monoprix on the Champs Elysees; it's on a corner closer to the Arch end of the avenue. It was quite large; upstairs there were housewares, the basement had groceries. Check on www.pagesjaunes.fr for photo, location. Tati is OK but too chaotic for me; stuff is all jumbled into bins. Only looked in one near Monmartre, in the area below the stairs where all the fabric stores are. Now there's a place I plan to look again for provencal and "toile de Juoy" (sp) fabrics to use when sewing.
