I need a hotel on Amalfi coast for up to 150 euros for a room for 2 in May 2003. Anyone have a recommendation

And it's really not quite beach weather in May -- I enjoyed staying at the VR and having a small balcony (it's all about the VIEW) on which to sit and relax while sipping my morning cappucino.<BR>

Finally - some answers - thanks to all who did!! I would prefer Amalfi please. We want to walk to Ravello, and go to other places using the SITA buses then do walks from there, so the view is what we want too - not the beach!

Is the Belvedere more than 150 euros per night for 2 people? It sounded dear.

If you change your mind and decide on Sorrento, try the Palazzo Starace. Cheap, clean and central. We had a balcony overlooking the main drag and it's a 5 min walk to the train/bus station.<BR>Kay

Amanda<BR><BR>I would second Belevedere - it should just fit in your budget. About 3 kms west of Amalfi. It is on a promontory that juts into the sea. If you can afford, jump to a superior room &amp; ask for #2. The view is breathtaking from the large shared patio.<BR><BR>It is also a SITA stop.

A very hearty ditto for Tess's endorsement of Villa Rosa--wonderful little place! Cannot imagine a more spectacular view of sea and mountains.

After visiting last November, I would urge you to stay in Positano rather than Amalfi or Sorrento. We really loved that village - having travelled a lot in Italy, and loving it as a country, I've never stayed anywhere where the people were warmer or friendlier. The town is a good size, with plenty of choice for eating etc, but nowhere near as urban and busy as Sorrento. Although not quite as convenient as Sorrento, it is probably easier to get to and from than Amalfi, which in any case, did not seem to us such an attractive or atmospheric a place. We stayed at Le Sirenuse, which was fantastic, but could not be called 'moderate'. You will love the Amalfi Coast, and nowhere in the world will you see such skilled bus drivers!! Hopefully you are planning on visiting Pompeii - you really need a full day there to do it justice. Wherever you stay, try to eat at the beach restaurant at Buca di Baco (I think) in Positano. We adored it so much that once we discovered it we ate there the remaining 3 nights of our holiday (amazing gelati &amp; pizzas)!

Thank you everyone for the recommendations - the Belvedere looks great, but how do you get to Amalfi for dinner etc - walk the 3klms? or does the hotel have a bus?
