Babaldas: Your "clarification" still does not indicate the argument had ANYTHING to do with the race of the child. It seems you may have jumped to a very wrong conclusion. Not serving a child is a LOT different than not serving a child because he is of mixed race.

This is amusing, the child looked to you of mixed race so you assume that
is why the waiter was upset?
This could happen in any situation with any race claiming that his/her race is why some other event happened.
I have been treated rudely by waiters,is it because I am a woman, a white person, an American, I wasn't dressed in high heels? Could be any reason or no reason at all.

"I am hoping you will all tell me that Paris is (by and large) a modern and diverse metropolis and that we most likely will not encounter such difficulties... "
I didn't have any personal observations to share with regard to mixed race couples in Paris. But it is a modern and diverse metropolis, and therefore I wouldn't expect any more difficulties than, well, you get at home.

Dear janis and nocinonut,
If you check my original post you will find that it was NOT my conclusion that the child wasn't served due to its mixed race, nor was it my assumption that the issue of mixed race is what caused the waiter to be upset.....those are your conclusions and assumptions.
Dear Babaldas, please do not let one singular little incident disuade you from a visit to Paris. As I stated, this was the only incident that occured during my whole trip that was unsavory, and in every other situation the populace went out of their way to be kind and of assistance to us. Even the pickpocket I encountered in the meto was polite, but thats a story about Fridays adventures.
Paris is a beautiful city and it has been our experence that it is filled with everyday people who do exactlly what other people do all over the world.
Go there with someone you love and you will have a good time.

Oops, Now I see the problem -- I should have said:
"Babaldas: mcv1105's "clarification" still does not indicate the argument had ANYTHING to do with the race of the child. It seems he may have jumped to a very wrong conclusion. . . . . "
Sorry about the confusion. But my point is the same -
