Milan Malpensa bus shuttle from centrale train station?

Six of us (3 couples) are staying within a block or two of the Milan Central Train station for the last night of our 2 week trip to Italy in early October (planning a duomo visit and Last supper viewing for our last afternoon/evening). We need to get to Malpensa airport for a 9:35am flight, back to the US. Is the shuttle bus from the train station the best choice? What time should we plan to take the bus? We priced a private driver and were quoted 170 euros for the 6 of us, which seemed pretty high. Any advice from those who have previously used the shuttle bus would be appreciated. Grazie!

This information may be helpful:

Journey time from central Milan is around 45-50 minutes.

* Fare: EUR 65.00 - EUR 75.00.

The Malpensa Express departs from Milan's Cadorna Rail Station, near Duomo Square, every 30 minutes. It also stops at Milan Bovisa and Saronno stations. First Train Departs Milan Cadorna at 05.50, the last departs 20.20. The journey takes around 40 minutes.

* Fare: EUR 9.00 one-way. Same day return is EUR 12.00, open return EUR 14.50.

The Malpensa Express information line is 02 20222.

There are also rail links to Malpensa from Milan Central and Milan Garibaldi Stations via Gallarate. A local shuttle bus connects Gallarate Rail Station and Malpensa with departures from 06.05 to 20.15.

* Shuttle bus fare: To Terminal 1 EUR 1.30, Terminal 2 EUR 1.05.

From Milan Central trains depart from 07.30 until 21.30.

From Milan Garibaldi trains depart from 05.05 until 22.25.

The State Rail Information number is 848 880.

Bus services leave from various locations around Milan and beyond and arrive at the terminal Departures area. Journey times vary. There is also a local service from Gallarate train station.

From Milan Central Station the Malpensa Shuttle departs every twenty minutes from 05.00 until 22.30. Journey time is around an hour.

* Fare: EUR 4.50.

From Milan Gallarate Station the service runs every twenty minutes from 06.05 to 20.15.

* Fare: To Terminal 1 EUR 1.30, Terminal 2 EUR 1.05.

When we were there about 5 or 6 years ago, we took the Malpensa Express. I believe we took a taxi from our hotel to the Cardona station. I remember it was very easy and the train took us right to our terminal. It has early departures also, which is what you'll need. Of course, the shuttles leave early also, but they take longer, especially depending on traffic. For a 9:45 departure, I'd try to be there by 7 or 7:30. Malpensa is just not an easy airport!

The Malpensa Shuttle from Milano Centrale station is your best choice IMO.
Fare: €7

You can find the timetable at:

I suggest you catch the 06.00 bus from Milano Centrale station

Hope this helps ...

Thanks for the good advice. Can you purchase the shuttle bus tickets the day before? Just looking to save as much time as possible for our early am departure.

You can buy tix before but the bus driver sells tix so it's really not necessary to purchase in advance.

By the way, I believe the bus fare is slightly higher than what is posted above. More like 7 euros per person.

We took the bus from Milan train station to Malpensa a few weeks ago. Worked out great.

Takes about 1 hour. Since you are heading back to the States leave three hours minimum in the airport to get through security. I would take the 5:40 bus. The lines are huge! We paid 7 euros each.

BTW, the taxis have the cost of ride to Malpensa posted. It is flat rate from Duomo 75 euros.
