Metro at night–how safe?
we will be arriving at Orly late. Thinking about taking the Orlyval and the connecting Metro into Paris.
I feel ridiculous asking this a New Yorker who's ridden the subway at all hours but how safe is it late at night? I've never been to Paris so really don't know. thanks in advance

The metro is safe but you say "we" and with flat rate taxi fares for up to 4 people of 30€ for the Left Bank and 35€ for the Right Bank, a taxi may be a good choice for two or more people from Orly. The mass transit route that you describe will be 12.05€ per adult so for 6€ more two people would have door to door service and for 3, a taxi is cheaper.

Generally, you'd be perfectly safe. However as you're arriving with luggage to schlepp, probably jet lagged, probably with a not exactly clear idea of where you are going, in the dark, for safety's sake, I'll go with the cab idea suggested previously

The last Metro running from Thurs - Sun is at 11:40 PM.
The last Metro running from Fri - Sat is at 1:40 AM.
If you miss the Metro take a taxi from the official stand in Orly.
It's a good idea to print out the address, including the Postal Code, so there won't be any confusion.

The metro and RER lines are generally safe, whether at 11 pm or 1am. There'll be plenty of people in the metro, and sometimes security people go through the trains to check. But if you have a several people, I agree that taking a taxi is more convenient.

<i> probably jet lagged</i>
I could be mistaken, but I don't know of any long haul flights that arrive in Orly late at night. Most of the flights there are short or medium haul and the few long haul flights that use the airport arrive in the morning.

probably jet lagged
I wondered . . .but he said New York so I assumed. I'd still take a taxi . . .I Like door to door with no stairs schlepping or transfers and I'm frequently jet lagged on my flight from Palermo.
