Taxis in Paris
We will be arriving at Porte Maillot just after midnight on a Wednesday night/ Thursday morning in July and need to get to a hotel near Montparnasse cemetery. Is is safe & convenient to take the metro at this time of night with 2 children and luggage? Does anyone have an idea what a taxi would cost? I understand it would be Tarif B at this time.

Hi,
I'm sure it would be perfectly safe to take the metro, although I'm not sure how convenient it would be! It depends how much luggage you'll be carrying and how old your children are (i.e. can they walk, cope with stairs/escalators on their own, etc.).
Also, I agree with amwosu that you might be cutting it a bit fine at that time of night - the last metro from Porte Maillot is at 00.46 (line 1), and you'd then need to change to line 12 at Concorde - the last metro there is at 00.58. So it's doable, but quite tight, especially if you aren't familiar with Paris!
A taxi wouldn't be *too* expensive I wouldn't think - I'm guessing it would probably cost in the realm of 15-20 euros.

I'm not sure that I would want to take a metro at that hour, especially with kids, but maybe that's just me. At any rate, I believe the metro stops running at 12:30 AM, so you wouldn't have a lot of time. Your best bet would probably be a taxi. I don't think the taxi would be that expensive from Porte Maillot to Montparnasse, even at that time of night. It's less than 5 miles, according to viamichelin.

I think the RER out of the airport (Roissy station) closes at midnight and then the metro closes at 1:15am so even if the metro is open you won't be able to access it.
Unfortunately, taxi rates are significantly higher between 8pm and 7am but it is definitely the way to go.
Although there isn't anything difficult or mysterious about it I would only take the RER and metro from CDG without luggage and without children even in the daytime. After being on a long flight at night its just a drag.

You'll pay the fare on the meter plus 1€ PER bag. Have the address written down to show to the driver. Keep in mind that if during your stay you call for a cab, the meter is started when the driver heads in your direction.
