Merces neighborhood, Lisbon

Hello, is Merces a nice neighborhood to stay in Lisbon? How was is it walking distance from the main city centre. I am assuming the city centre is the Baixa district. Is this correct? Also does anyone know how walkable it is from Merces to Baixa? Thanks in advance for any tips and advice. Also, is the Belem Tower worth a trip? We are planning on staying at the Palmeira Heaven in Merces neighbourhood. Has anyone heard of this? Thank you!

I know where the rua da Palmeira is, and it's a fine neighborhood that is a 15 minute walk to the Baixa area (which is more touristy and less interesting).

The Belem monastery is beautiful and unique. I didn't go to the Belem Tower, but I am very glad I saw the monastery.

The tower is worth a look. The Discovery Monument is worth a look. The monastery is to die for.

Have no knowledge of the Merces neighborhood, I sleep steps from Praca dos Restauradores.

It's actually the Principe Real neighborhood, which is the best area of the city! (Mercês is the old name of the administrative area / freguesia.) Easy to walk to the center, or you can take the bus or metro to anywhere in the city.
