Medical equipment permission

Who do I contact about bringing a portable oxygen concentrator into the country. Are there any rules against bringing such a device into Britain? My husband has a mild case of sleep apnea & needs the concentrtor for sleeping.

I would suggest that you contact the closest British Consulate.

This link provides their locations in the U.S.:

If by 'oxygen concentrator' you mean a CPAP device, then no worries. My partner uses one, and we traveled into and out of London twice last summer with no problems at all.

Again, if it is a CPAP do check to see that it will handle 220 volts input power. If not, you may need to buy a power converter. Regardless, you will definitely need a plug-adapter to fit into the UK-style outlets.

He doesn't use a CPAP, it is an air purifier. Most of the machines are the size of a large suitcase but a new one is coming out that is the size of a toaster. I will check with the consulate. Thanks.

I believe than an oxygen concentrator sucks in room air and concentrates it so that oxygen flows through the nasal canula.

M mother sleeps with one. When we went on a Scandinavian cruise, she rented one from a company that delivered it to the ship in Stockholm and picked it up in Copenhagen. Her US vendor found the company for her.
