Mayfair hotels Athenaeum, Stafford, Chesterfield

I am investigating some London hotels. Any comments from recent stays?

We stayed at the Chesterfield Mayfair about 8 years ago, so not a recent stay. The staff was lovely, and the rooms somewhat small (probably average for London) but very well appointed and organized. The bathroom was a good size. I loved the location and would definitely stay there again. We stayed a few days, and then went off for a few days, and on our return were upgraded for our last night. The breakfasts were excellent and included in our room rate.

The Stafford looks attractive but the price when I was looking was too high.

I stayed at the Stafford last fall for the first time although I have been to The American Bar a number of times. The room was the most beautifully decorated room that I have ever had. Maybe luck of the draw but who knows. Perfect location, great staff. Renovations may be underway for the new dining room so I would check.

Elaine,
We have stayed at the Chesterfield Mayfair 7 or 8 times, the last visit was about 10 months ago. Beautiful, spotlessly clean, excellent staff. The staff seem geniunely happy to be at work and will treat you very well. The rooms are smallish by American standards but very well organized with lots of storage space. I love the rain shower in the bath. We always get the rate which includes the english breakfast. It is excellent and fills us up until dinner time. It is perhaps a 7 minute pleasant stroll to the Green Park tube station which has 3 lines running through it. We are often able to get to our destination w/o changing lines.

Thanks for the info. I'm debating now, based on price and availability, between the Chesterfield Mayfair and the Athenaeum.
