May in Paris

My husband and I arrive in Paris on May 2 and depart May 11. We thought we would stay in Paris for 4 nights before taking the train to Provence and staying for 4 nights. Where should we stay in Provence? One place or two, knowing we will rent a car for day trips?
Thanks!

On the beach
Antibes if you like small towing or nice if you prefer cities.
Inland I like a lot aix en Provence or a small village. Gordes or villedieu or baumes de venise or ...

Personally I like the Luberon area. You can easily spend 4 nights in this area. Many beautiful villages such as Menerbes, Bonnieux, Gordes. Lourmarin, etc. which would make a great base for exploring. Enjoy your trip!

It does really depends what you have in mind that you want to see, as to whether you stay over near Avignon or more towards Nice.

I also think most people would find the Luberon area generally convenient and what they had in mind from Provence.

I would not move hotels if you are only there 4 nights. I have moved locations but I was there at least a week total. Of course you can if you really want to, but no point in doing that unless they are far apart, say once in Nice and then move to the Luberon for the last couple of nights.

I'd make Avignon your base ... well located for visiting the Luberon, etc. My favorite hotel in Avignon is La Mirande.

Maybe Aix would Be the best choice if you like lively places. It Is also quite central. Cassis, montagne sainte victoire, luberon, baux de Provence, verdon, Avignon are all doable on a day trip

Several years ago we stayed in Avignon for a few days to tour the city and the Palais des Papes. We then rented a car and moved to a small town, Fontvielle, to use as a base to tour the area. We stayed in La Villa Regalido.
