May 2018 Croatia trip guidance
Arriving in Zagreb May 20-Depart Dubrovnik June 1
We have the front end (Zagreb, Istria) and back end of our trip (Dubrovnik) planned. Having trouble figuring out the best use of five days in between Istria and Dubrovnik.
Current thinking:
Spend 1 night in a town between Istria and Split. Perhaps Sibenik or Zadar to reduce time in the car and enjoy towns along the drive to Split.
Next travel to Split area and spend 2 nights in or near split
Take Ferry from Split to Hvar or Brac followed by two nights in a town/island TBD
Depart by car ferry to mainland for drive to Dubrovnik.
Any suggestions on this rough itinerary? The choice of island will depend on ferry schedules and hotels. Given luggage and health issues, we really need to have the car for the duration of the trip. Reducing luggage size is not an option. Our son, who will have completed a lengthy study abroad in Romania, will have a larger suitcase and daypacks when he joins us in Zagreb.
Thanks in advance!

Should work -- but honestly, without knowing anything about your interests or what else you plan to visit, I don't see how we can possibly comment in any meaningful way.
I happen to be of the opinion that the Plitvice Lakes are the most stunning of Croatia's many splendors, and I would make that your stop between Istria and Split. Plan on an overnight and a single loop of 6 hours or so through the park, starting at the lowest lakes.
