Jeez Louise. I was just looking at prices Denver to London. $1229 for May 14 returning May 29. Returning in June is even Pricier. Last year I paid around $900. Have all the prices to Europe skyrocketed???

I think it's still to early for any deals to be around. I have several fare alerts set up for trip next June so I can get the best price.

Way too early. There is often a flurry of bargains right around the time schedules first open, but it is followed by a war of nerves between you and the airlines to see whether you anxiety will make you book before they have to lower prices.. They may not ever lower the price, but alternatives will open up.

High season begins around May 15, so you will get hosed after that.

You don't say where you are coming from, and that can matter a great deal, as can multiple stops.

All airline prices to Europe have skyrockted due to higher fuel costs and incredibly higher taxes. The UK has the highest air taxes of any country in Europe, and that is reflected in the high prices to fly there.

Having said that, I also agree with everyone else that it's far too early to book travel for May if you want to get the best deals. Set up an alert, and you may find something better, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect you'll get a flight for much less than $1000 next year.

Frankly, I would not call the increase you mention a "skyrocket."

I would sign up for Kayak alerts but then just how long are you going to wait hoping for some sort of deal? There may not BE any for your destination. Flights are closer to capacity than ever as the airlines have decreased the number of available seats.

My own example is the one from our trip to Europe this past summer. We booked the seats 330 days out and because we used Air Canada we saved more than $1000 over using a more direct itinerary.

One month before our departure I checked the prices out of curiosity and they had only increased about $200. Did I think THAT was unusual? Yes but I'm still glad I booked when I did.
