Maribel - Did you Visit Cornucopia Restaurant Yet?

Maribel - I was just wondering if you managed yet to visit the restaurant and your impressions. Curiosity.........

Thanks

she is not at home...so topping is unnecessary.

Hi Flame123,
Thanks.
Sorry I missed this while I was traveling (took a break from Fodor's to savor my trip!).

Sorry to report that I didn't make it to Cornucopia as planned. We were knee deep in meetings which lasted longer than I had planned and just didn't have the time.

But I did find a couple of new casual bistros with a very high price to quality ratio and nice buzz that I'll be adding to my guide for your next trip!

I was there a couple of years ago. It´s managed by a former popular tv show dancer, Kim, and it´s been running for several years. Food is fine, the wine selection is good and service is attentive. The decoration is modern and the atmosphere is casual and focused on couples. A good choice for downtown Madrid, if you don´t want to spend much.

Maribel - glad you had a good trip.

mikelg - I was there a few months ago. The reason I asked Maribel about it because we went there on her recommendations and while the food was OK and the service fine, I mentioned to her that the waiters that came out of the kitchen were wearing SUCH filthy aprons that it was extremely unappealing. We mentioned it to the one womnan who knew enough English there to understand us and she was very apologetic and even offered us free after-lunch drinks. But I wondered whether they were going to remedy the problem, that's all, and Maribel said she would be visiting there again.

I remember that post on the filthy aprons...I didn´t notice anything at the time (my tolerance levels to dirt are those of a male...ample), but will make sure to return to Cornucopia on my next visit to Madrid and will check the cleanliness of their aprons. A good excuse for a return.

Thanks, mikelg!
Your reco of Atebakarra was spot on! We were going to opt for the good value menú del día in the bar area until we eyed the gorgeous porch. It beckoned us to a really fine final gourmet meal before heading home. Just such a lovely place with gracious service (and no dirty aprons-waitress staff dressed in pretty regional costumes!)

A great find!

Thank you, I know you´d like it. The porch is perfect for a summer meal, food has a classic touch but very good and service is excellent.
