Well, hello again everyone. I haven't been answering postings on this site for quite some time due to other commitments. Sorry everyone. I have also had to change my email due to loads of spam I was getting, so now the only way to ask a question is through this forum.
James, the weather in April will be really pleasant here. You might even be able to do some sunbathing. Bring your shortsleeves along, and a few cotton longsleeves for the evenings just in case.
I can tell you only that the hotel you mention has been recently renovated, so it shoyuld be in pristine condition. But if you do not intend to hire a car, I recommend you stay in the Sliema/St Julians' area.
Pat & Linda, hope your holiday met your expectations !

WELCOME BACK SIMON!! VERY TIMELY INDEED AT LEAST FOR ME. WE ARE COMING INTO MALTA FOR A FEW HOURS REALLY ON A CRUISE (IN THE AFTERNOON) WE ARE A FAMILY OF FOUR (KIDS ARE IN MID 20'S) WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH JUST A FEW HOURS THERE AND NOT WANTING TO GO CRAZY YET GET A FEEL FOR THE PLACE? I LOVED THE MOVIE POPEYE! (WHICH I TOOK A BUNCH OF LITTLE KIDS TO SEE YEARS BACK!) I LOVED THE SCENERY SO MUCH! I HEAR THEY HAVE A TOURIST PLACE AT THE SITE OF THE MOVIE SET. IS THIS SOMETHING WORTH SEEING OR SIMPLY TOO TOURISTY? ANY NEAT PLACE TO LOOK FOR FOR A BITE TO EAT?? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP! HELEN

Well, with only a few hours to spare, I would say don't even consider the Popeye village. Going there by taxi would take 45 mins either way. By bus you will miss the boat. But it's cute. i can send you a digital picture or two if that is your email. I would spend what little time I have in Valletta (walk uphill, don't take a taxi or at most take a horse cab but negotiate a reasonable price beforehand). In Valletta I would visit (sorry for the kids though, they will hate it) the President's Palace, the Co-Cathedral especially its museum (includes the famous Beheading of St John by Caravaggio), the Auberge de castille (from outside - inside is too sensitive as it houses the Prime Minister's Office). Lunch in Valletta possibly at Rubino in Old Bakery street for Mediterranean fare, or if you have kids at Cafe Bar Sicilia overlooking the Grand Harbour (they serve genuine Sicilian food and American fast food). Entering through Victoria Gate on foot is a great way to go, showing all the fortifications and the last cafeteria is at the top of the stairs. Then of course the Upper Baracca gardens, the War Museum possibly, and finally coffe at Cafe Cordina (one of the first coffee houses in Malta).
Feel free to ask for more info.

I just came from a vacation in Malta. It was wonderful - not too crowded, not too hot. I booked from a website called www.iMalta.com - also has some decent information about Malta. I wouldn't really worry on which town to stay - everywhere is reachable in half an hour!

Hi Simon, would you mind answering a couple of questions about Malta?

I am seriously considering going to Malta for about a week with my best friend during the middle of September. We are both in our late twenties and are looking for a relaxing vacation where we can enjoy the beach and nightlife but still have some opportunities to see some cool sites and generally get some exposure to a different culture.

Does Malta sound appropriate?

Will it be warm enough to swim and sunbathe in mid-September?

Thanks in advance!
Certainly. Malta is warm enough to swim all through September. It tends to be hot and very humid in September though, up to the 21st.
Malta will be a wonderful place to absorb the culture, relax at the seaside (preferably mornings, when the local guys are at work) and enjoy some nightlife at night.
