Malpensa to Varenna car service

We are flying into Milan and are looking for a car service that will pick us up and take us to Varenna.

We have considered the bus/train route but after seeing that we will be traveling for about 20 hours I want to start our honeymoon off as easy as possible.
Has anyone used a service they can recommend?
I did contact our hotel in Varenna, and they did'nt have any advice except to check at the airport upon arrival.

Thanks for any help!

I don't know of a car service, but we took a bus ( really like a small shuttle) to Como from directly in front of the airport. It was perhaps an hour drive, and dropped us off a block from the ferry/hydrofoil. We decided to eat lunch there, overlooking the lake, and then took the hydrofoil to Varenna. It was 1 1/2 hour boat ride to Varenna, with spectacular scenery, and we just considered the trek to Varenna as the first wonderful part of our vacation. You are going to one of the most beautiful spots on earth - enjoy!

Thanks for the reply!

I considered this route also, I am just wondering if booking a car service will make the trip to Varenna any quicker.

You can hire a private car with driver from the counter at Malpensa (just outside the arrivals area) where they also sell bus and train tickets. It's 120 euros to go to Lecco, Varenna would be more but I don't know exactly how much.

I just met a guy the other day who runs a taxi/tour service all over the lakes area. It so happened that he was doing local runs ("when I have nothing better to do...&quot in Lecco when I needed a ride home. His name is Antonello Mattiolo, he speaks good English (many years spent as a professional diver, based in Cleveland - he must have stories to tell!) and I liked him a lot. His website is http://www.bestviaggi.com/ and he lists a price of 140 euros for Malpensa-Varenna. Tell him the American in Lecco with her own website sent you. <grin>

Thanks for the tip DS,

That is the lowest price I have seen so far. I know it still seems a bit costly for a ride, but for us it works great.
