Making an international connection through Atlanta

Delta keeps changing my itinerary, most recently canceling my flight from Houston to Atlanta where I am to make a flight to Rome and putting me on a later flight to ATL, reducing my connection time to 90 minutes. When I arrive from Houston and have to go to the international terminal, will I have to go through security again or will I stay on the secure side during the transfer? I've heard security lines are really slow in Atlanta and I'm concerned about making my flight. I'm never flying Delta again because they keep making changes without notifying me and the only reason I find out is by logging on periodically.

DH and I often fly international through Atlanta on Delta. You should be fine with 90 minutes to make the change, and you won't have to go back through security.

Any time I've flown internationally into Atlanta I've had to go back through security after going through customs. You are still in the 'secure' area but since you've had access to your checked bag you have to go back through security, and yes the lines can move slowly but I would think 90 minutes would still be enough time.

Flying from Houston to Atlanta to Rome, you will not have to go through security again. Ninety minutes will be plenty of time to change concourses. If you are returning through Atlanta, you will have to go back through security after you clear customs.

We also often fly via Atlanta from here in Orlando to our international destination.

And, yes, Delta often makes changes without notifying anyone and leaves it up to the customer to log in and figure it out. This just happened to me and our flight from Prague arrived too late to connect with our Frankfurt flight to Atlanta. If I did not check often, I have no idea when I would have figured out the change.

They were, however, very helpful when I called and put us on a flight out of Munich as there were no flights from Prague that would get us home when we needed to be there.

And believe me it is not just Delta, they all do this and far too often these days. Continental did the same to us recently.

I guess I've been lucky that no other carrier has ever changed a flight on me before Delta!

We used to fly though Atlanta often and right after 9/11 it was a real mess, but they cured their security problems. All through the years we have learned that some times the connection doesn't work and some times it does and it is always an adventure. I feel that if you are nice the airlines are wonderful.... if something fails they will get you to where you want to go. Be adventuresome and have a great time.
