Maiori via Naples or Salerno?
Sorry to post yet another Amalfi Coast transportation question, but I've done a bunch of searches and haven't been able to find information on what I am seeking. I have two questions:

1. Is it easier to get to Maiori via Salerno or Naples?

2. If we use public transportation can we easily get around the Amalfi Coast or is Maiori out of the way?

BACKGROUND:

I am getting married in Ravello in October 2002. We have rented a villa in Maiori where most of our guests will be staying. Most (if not all) of our guests will be flying into Rome. I am trying to figure out if it is better to get them to Naples or Salerno and then arrange transportation to the villa. Salerno is closer, but I don't see many posts on transportation in Salerno. We are still trying to decide on renting a car, using a driver or just going with public transportation. From what I have seen there is no "RIGHT" answer to the local transportation question; everyone has their own personal preferences.

The villa where we are staying is: http://www.villeinitalia.com/House.jsp?name=Torre+di+Cesare

Thanks in advance for any help!
Jody
Washington, D.C.

The best public transportation option is to go through Salerno. SITA buses leave hourly from directly outside the train station going to Maiori in one hour (direction, Amalfi). There are also ferries from Salerno to Amalfi, but you then need to take a taxi into Maiori.

i think you should definately provide transportation for your guests to and from rome and the villa. and actually for any and all other outtings they may take while in Amalfi for your wedding. you can easily hire a driver to cater to all of their transportation needs and save them the hassle of researching this for themselves.

another thoughtful gesture would be to have scooters, bikes, boats and any other mode of transportation available for the enjoyment while at the villa. you should also consider hiring a chef, providing laundry services, cases upon cases of wine and fresh flowers each day in their rooms.

Unless you are providing a chartered bus from Fiumicino Airport to Maiori (which would be a good idea), I suggest that you give your guests detailed written information about how to reach Maiori. Train schedules and fares can be found at www.trenitalia.com Your guests will want to take a direct train (Eurostar-ES or Intercity-IC) from Roma Termini to Salerno (without changing in Naples). They can reach Roma Termini in 32 minutes via the non-stop Leonardo da Vinci Express Train from Roma Aeroporto. Beware that there are fewer trains to Salerno on Sundays (connection times at Roma Termini will differ from the rest of the week). Purchase train tickets for both legs at the ticket windows at the airport train station (avoiding the very long lines at Termini Station). Credit cards accepted.
Bus schedules from Salerno to Maiori can be found on www.sita-on-line.it
Click on: Orari Campania Quadro 15
Bus tickets are sold at the newstand inside the Salerno train station (NOT on board the bus). Bus leaves from a stop 5 or 10 yards from the front doors of the station.

Thanks again. We are getting prices for transporting guests from Rome to Maiori. Unfortunately, it looks like everyone is arriving at different times, so we can't put everyone on one bus together. That would be ideal because I know it's going to be exhausting carrying around all that luggage. I will DEFINITELY share your information with everyone. Thanks so much.
