Mainz Wedding

I know a couple being married in Mainz in March. They are not from the area. The civil ceremony will be at the Standesamt, near the Hauptbahnhof. It will likely be held mid afternoon.

Where’s a good place, within walking distance of the Standesamt, to have a reception for about 8-10 people? They are looking for something nice, but not formal and not too expensive. I’d say entrees about 15 euro.

What about a nice hotel for the wedding night? The couple would prefer something with a German flavor, rather than a business hotel. Cost is less of a factor than location and ambience. Again, something not too far from the Hauptbanhof, as the couple will likely depart by train the next morning.

Any suggestions?

You might get some really good answers if you look on the Mainz section of Toytown. This is a website for English speakers living in Germany. Each major city and region has its own seperate forum.

The Hyatt in Mainz is a beautiful hotel. A room with a view of the Rhine would be lovely. I have walked to the train from there, but a taxi is not expensive.
I ate recently in a great restaurant, but the name escapes me. It was a 5 minute walk from the Hilton(on the river),towards the old town. It looks like a church inside. The food and service was excellent. Maybe a local can remember the name.
I will do some research if no one comes up with it.

Mainhattengirl - great idea, thanks. I'll see what those folks have to say, although the Hyatt and Heiliggeist sound like winners.

Thanks to all!
