Mainau/Rhine Falls

Note to Cicerone:
We will be staying two nights at the Welcome Inn Hotel in Kloten before returning to the states in June. Thinking about taking a one day trip to the Bodensee and go visit the flower island, Mainau, one day, and visit the Rhine Falls the second day. Have you been to those places and is it well worth the trip? Any other suggestions?

Loved the Rhine Falls - walked there from Schauffhausen a few miles along the river though there is a train station right by the falls. Can also go by boat to the base of the falls. Thundering falls in a sylvan setting.

We were on Mainau Island in April and it was early for most of the flowers but the daffodils were vry pretty and the butterfly house and orchid house were both awesome.

AisleSeat - If you travelled by train, can you please give me directions to Mainau - which train station to get off at, where is the boat that you take to the island? How much time would you recommend for travel to and from the station and time spent on Mainau Island?

PalQ - How long did it take you to hike from Rhine Falls to Shauffhausen, and was it an easy to moderate hike?

Any info would be appreciated. Peace.

The hike to the falls is very easy--mostly level along the river, except for a short climb when you reach the castle--I recall that it took around an hour or so, not going very fast.

note to artstuff:
Since AisleSeat has not answered your question yet, let me say that I believe you take the train to Constance, and from there you can walk by land to the island of Mainau. Maybe when Cicerone answers my original message we will know for sure.

Hi. I'm not Cicerone, but I've enjoyed Mainau, the Rhine Falls, Schaffhausen, and Stein am Rhein. If you're interested in painted buildings, don't miss Stein. Actually, your location makes visits to so many interesting places possible -- too bad you don't have more time. There's Regensberg and Rapperswil nearby. J.
