Basically, I can fly into either at the same price. From Barcelona I was looking at an overnight train to Seville for a couple of days, Granada for a couple and then an overnight back to Barcelona. The two overnight trains would enable me to travel without taking away any of our day (sightseeing time) and would take care of bedding twice. The negatives are no Madrid and having to sleep on a train.

Or we fly into Madrid, and do the same route. We would take trains during the day.

Flying is an option but I worry that between flying, getting their early and checking out, we would eat into our days just as much as some train trips. I have not ruled it out though.

So it boils down to Barcelona or Madrid, I think. I know nothing about either. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Just for your info..I just booked an airfare Barcelona-Granada on Iberia for 31 Euros plus booking fee. The trip takes one hour and 15 minutes.

Check out air fares. Check out hour by hour.

Last spring we flew Granada-Barcelona for about 25E a person. The fare an hour off that was over 150E.

Our friend flew from barcelona to Seville for an equally low fare.

We spent time in Madrid, Seville, Granada and Barcelona.

While Madrid has the palace, museums and day trips, in my opinion it doesn't compare to Barcelona for walking around and enjoying the city.

If you have the time, do all.

I agree with Myer1, Madrid's a fine city with great museums and raucous all-night clubbing, but Barcelona is something special. It's vibrant, the architecture is stunning, it's beautiful, the food is quite good, and just walking around the Ramblas or the Eixample is something extra special.

Another vote for Barcelona. I have also flown within Spain and the airfare can be wichedly inexpensive! Granada is one of my favorite cities in Spain.
