Madrid Art Week. March 2026
In early March, Madrid hosts its Art Week, the major annual event for contemporary art in Madrid, an event that transforms the city into a creative hub with several art fairs bringing together national and international galleries and artists —encompassing emerging art and established proposals— to showcase the latest in current art, from painting and sculpture to installations and video art.
ARCOmadrid is Spain’s International Contemporary Art Fair and, since its inception, has established itself as one of the leading platforms in the contemporary art market. In 2026, the fair will celebrate its 45th edition, with ARCO2045: The future, for now as the central theme: two spaces within the fair which will invite reflection on possible futures and tentative languages of art in order to glimpse new horizons.
In its latest edition, ARCOmadrid welcomed over 95,000 visitors, more than 1,300 artists, 206 galleries, over 800 collectors and invited professionals, and representatives from 36 countries.

From 4 to 8 March 2026, the Glass Gallery at Cibeles Palace is hosting the 21st edition of Art Madrid, a multidisciplinary fair featuring national and international galleries that work with painting, sculpture, graphic work, photography, digital art and video art of recent production (21st century). The fair brings together thirty-five national and international galleries. This reinforces the commitment of the fair to making emerging and established galleries more visible and to bringing contemporary art to diverse audiences. With a pluralistic approach, it avoids subscribing to a single curatorial line and instead promotes the diversity of its offerings, respecting the identity of each exhibitor.

SOLO is an international arts project based in Madrid, dedicated to fostering, supporting, and sharing the art of today. At the heart of SOLO lies an extensive contemporary art collection alongside several art centers, forming the foundation of a project that promotes artistic experimentation, supports contemporary creation, and actively accompanies artists in their creative journey.
Founded in 2015, SOLO is driven by a deep interest in reflecting a hyper-informed and hyperconnected world—one where cultural boundaries dissolve, merging popular and established expressions, classic and contemporary influences, and the intersection of the multicultural and the local, the human and the artificial.

La Neomudéjar Avant-garde Art Centre and International Artist Residency, is a space dedicated to the most innovative creations. Video-art festivals, exhibitions, talks and artistic installations are programmed in this space, which has artists in residence, who leave their mark on the building itself. Installed in the former offices of the state railway company, the building used to belong to the old Atocha station, and the end of the railway line went right up to its door, where materials were unloaded directly from the freight wagons.

The Canal Foundation hosts, from 3 February to 3 May, "Street Art. From its origins to Banksy". The exhibition is divided into five historical periods, from the first signatures or tags on the streets of Philadelphia and New York in the late seventies to its international expansion.

This is an amazing collection of resources about what is going on right now in the art world in Madrid.
I realize most people go to Europe to see 'old stuff', but I like it best when I can also connect with living art and the community that creates it.
Like how a necrophiliac music lover only makes loves to the music of dead composers, I try to avoid the equivalent in the fine arts.

One more fair.
SAM - Salón de Arte Moderno 2026 will be held from March 3 to 8, 2026, in the Ballroom of the Círculo de Bellas Artes. This year it will bring together an extraordinary selection of works that <explore the dialogue between modern art, antiquities, and contemporary creation>. Confirmed artists include key figures of the 20th century such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, and Antonio López, alongside historical pieces of immense heritage value.
Among the highlights are Tête de femme (1942), an exceptional drawing by Matisse; Personnages dans une auberge espagnole (1898), an early charcoal drawing by a young Picasso; and Mesa cerca de Tomelloso (1959), a fundamental work in the evolution of Antonio López's realism. The exhibition also extends into Antiquity with a Hellenistic sculpture of Aphrodite and Eros, a Greek red-figure krater, and other pieces that could easily belong in museum collections.
