Everyone has been so helpful with Barcelona I thought I'd ask your advice for Madrid. I found some options:

Could you find the address for both apt., are the bedroom facing the street etc... Grand Via is a very busy street.

Most spain select apt. are rented per month, except a few (on their site).
Friendly rentals has a number of apt. in Madrid.

I can't find the address where the bedroom faces. What section of Madrid would you suggest to stay in? That would help me so I know where and where not to look !

Both Isabel Verde & Rojo look to be off on a side street Calle De Isabel La Catolica near Gran Via.

Madrid is a huge city with big traffic.
Most people like to stay near Sol, Gran Via,Plaza Mayor.
We are always worried about noise but not everyone is.
What is your price range? How long are you going to be in Madrid?
is a hotel an option?

We'll be there 5nts. So hotel is an option but from what I've seen an apt is going to be the same price if not cheaper than most hotels I've checked into. Our price range would be in the $600-$700 for 5nts.

if you go back to the second apt ( it is on the 3 floor), you can contact the agency and ask questions.
The apt. location is a bit off the very center ( but only a few metro stops) - Grand Via is a long street . If you look at the larger map, you will see what I mean.
Some like staying closer to Prado, Santa Ana is also popular. Where ever you stay, you will have to walk a lot ot take metro.

I'm from Madrid, Gran Via St. is in Madrid old downtown. A Noisy and busy location. Gran Via is a big shopping ave but later midnight is not a very safe place.

I agree, Gran Via is great for shopping but I wouldn't necessarily want to room there, better for a visit.

Stay near plaza Santa Ana if you could, it is so cute there and close to everything.

I don't think the Gran Via area is any more dangerous than most other downtown streets at night.

In fact, it is plenty lit up and busy.

Some of those "cute plazas" are full of druggies in after hours.. since they are so cute and cozy and near parking lot steps where they can go relieve themselves.. so.. after hours in most places is not "strolling time" anyway...

There are some good deals on now so if you give us your dates maybe we can pin something down for you. I would think you could get a nice hotel for 70-80 euros a night unless there is a trade fair on.

I stay in Madrid wherever I find a decent price not too far off track, and I have not felt uncomfortable in the Gran Via area, and many times I am alone, if that is any consolation.

For example, this week I am staying at the AC Avenida America for 75 euros. It is practically across the street from the bus depot to the airport ( 1 euro ride).. and a nice stroll to the famed Salamanca area and some nice museums and one of my favoirte simple restaurants.

I stayed at an amazing apartment located in the very center of Madrid, in Plaza Mayor, and I can say that I strongly recommend it to anyone. They have cheap prices, but still provide an excellent service. They have a selection of luxury apartments, probably the best selection of apartments in Madrid, that are all furnished and can allocate groups of fiends or families for up to 4 or 5 people at a rate of around 25 EUR per person per night.
