Madrid - 1 week

Hi! I'm heading to Madrid for 1 week, Nov 30 to Dec 8. Need advice on budget accomodations (urgent & less US$80), things to do...
Any info will be greatly appreciated to keep my budget in place.

We were in Madrid in May of 02 and stayed at the Hostal La Perla Asturiana for 40 euros a night with private bath. The room was very small, and a bit noisy since it backed up to the Plaza Mayor. Since you'll be there in Nov. however, you probably won't want the window open. They also had rooms without a private bath, but I don't know the cost.Their website is www.perlaasturiana.com.

I have stayed and recommend the Hotel Mora on Paseo del Prado, directly across the street from Museo del Prado and the Botanical Gardens. The price for a double was $50 and it was clean, comfortable, great service, and excellent location. Very close also to the Atocha Station.

Madrid is a great city to walk around and take in the street scene, the people, and if you want to get out of the city, within an hour you could be out in the countryside.

One of the best sites on the Net for tips on visiting Madrid on a budget is madridman.com. Their forum is well visited and you should be able to get all kinds of ideas on budget lodging, sightseeing, etc.

As far as ideas for Madrid, excellent museums, fascinating plazas, lively streets, great shopping. Have fun planning and post back!

We were in Madrid in April and took full advantage of the two decker buses which run all day on the main streets. We used it to get to the Prado and to generally sight-see. If you are ther for several days, get one of the longer passes. Well worth the money.

Thank's. Wich area will you prefer an Hotel to stay. Salamanca or Centro? Feel a bit worry about violence in the middle of the town, specially in the night. I've been in Salamanca area in 1987, but I don't remember very well.
Please advise.
