Lyon Hotels

What is a good inexpensive hotel in Lyon that is centrally located and under $125 a night?

Hotel La Résidence 3* may be just within your budget. Well reviewed here. Well located on the pedetrian street Rue Victor Hugo between Perrache Station and Bellcour square. Less than 5-minute walk to both Sôane and Rhone river. 15 minutes to Vieux-Lyon.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel La Residence. I think the double was 90€. It was perfectly located, 2 blocks from Perrache and 1 block from Pl Bellecour. we could walk across a bridge to Vieux Lyon, the olft up to Notre dame, and there were many museums in walking distance. About the only time we had to use the excellent transportation network was to get to the Croix Rousse and to the painted buildings further out .

Three cheers (votes) for La Residence, we also enjoyed both the hotel and the location even in August. Deborah

Last few times I stayed at Campanille Perrache on the place Carnot just in front of Perrache station. Two minute walk to Rue Victor Hugo I mentioned above. 2* and very basic, small single rooms (have never stayed at double). What like about this hotel is convenient location, if you don't want to walk far from the station, higher floor rooms give nice view of Place Carnot and even a far view of Fourvière Basilique. And the best is weekend rate is usually €49 (on hrs.com). Bathroom basic but clean as though recently renovated. Each room has alos a small electric kettle, complimentary coffee/tea bags and a piece of buiscuit. Suday mornig there is a market on the Place Carnot (veges, flowers, cheap clothes, dogs and cats) that's a bit of fun.

I've stayed at the Hotel Carlton (Mercure), Mercure Lyon Wilson and Hotel la Résidence, among others.

The Carlton had the most charm, great location near the Place de la République - but is only worth it if you can get a good rate as the rack rate is quite high. We got a double room there for 87 euros per night, through www.accorhotels.com

That said, Hotel la Résidence is pretty hard to beat in terms of value for money. Great location too.
