When will you be in Lyon jen and how old are the teens and child?
There are some standard must sees in Lyon;
Taking the funicular to Fourvière and walking back down via the Roman amphitheatre, strolling through the Traboules in the Old town.
Visiting Place des Terreaux and seeing the fountain sculpted by Bartholdi and the Town Hall (from the outside only).
Walking the Croix Rousse, with its artist's ateliers and independent shops, oh and the other Roman amphitheatre.
The Musee des Beaux Arts (second largest art gallery in France after the Louvre).
Musée des Confluences - slight caveat on this one, it is a bit of a schlep to get to and can be busy, but is worth a visit for the building alone.
And those are just the main ones, not even taking into account eating at Bouchons, or more luxurious restaurants widely considered to be among the best in France.
I only ask when you're going and the ages of the "kids" as Lyon has lots of free events over the summer months, under the banner of "tout le monde dehors" aimed at people of all ages, but some specifically aimed at children.
There's also the Nuits de Fourvière festival running at the moment (opened by Radiohead this year) with concerts, plays and dance taking place at the larger of the two amphitheatres throughout June and July. The view alone is worth the price of admission, but throw in a concert on a warm summer's night and it's pretty hard to beat as a venue.
If you let us know when you're going to be there, how old the kids are and if they're into anything in particular, we should be able to come up with a few more tailored suggestions.
Hope this helps!

You have had some great suggestions.
There are several wonderful trompe l'oeil murals in the city. We were most impressed by the Mur des Canuts/Silkworkers Wall in the Croix Rousse and the Bibliothèque.

I also loved seeing the statue of Saint-Exupéry and his Little Prince on one side of the Place Bellecour.
The public transportation system in Lyon is easy to use for getting around. The Liberté 1 Jour ticket for €5,50 gives you unlimited use of the subway, trams, buses and funiculars for a day.

Lots to see and do in Lyon. I hope to get back someday.
