Luxury Tour to London
Can anyone recommend a luxury tour to London leaving from NYC for my sister? She is in her 60's, active and interested. She only has 5 to 6 days and wants a top of the line experience for such a short period of time. Money is no object, but quality is.

Typically the purpose of a tour is to cover a lot of territory - so it's rare to find one limited to a single city. And while there are lots of packages to London they often include only air, hotel and a half-day city tour - and are typically bargain rather than upscale.
Perhaps your sister would be happier with a private guide - although for London I would really suggest she just wing it. After all, many of the things she'll want to see or do have docents and/or special lecture programs for locals - and she could meet a lot of interesting people by joining them.

Get a copy of Conde Nast's Traveller Magazine for this past August. They have an article called "130 Travel Specialists" which lists travel agents who, in their opinion, are the best in the business, and can specially tailor a package for someone, including a luxury tour. Take a look at http://www.concierge.com/cntraveler/, I think you can order issues from them as well. You should be able to view the entire article at http://www.concierge.com/cntraveler/...ug/perrin.xml/
Other high-end and well-respected tour operators to look at are Abercrombie & Kent at http://www.abercrombiekent.com/ and Cox and Kings at http://www.coxandkings.co.uk/

I agree with nytraveler's assessment. Rare to find a top of the line tour for just one city, especially London.
Some thoughts..
In addition to Tauck, Abercrombie & Kent is another top drawer co. Here's a URL that lists their offerings. None fit your request but worth a look

The best thought I have is to investigate tours with one of the museums (if she's interested in art), or an association she has interest in (like gardening although that will be outside London).
The Met museum has a travel program. On their site

go to special events and then travel. Unfortunately she missed an England one this past June and I don't see another coming up.
The 92nd st Y used to have an active travel program but they don't any more. However I notice Phyllis Stoller is giving a lecture there on Oct 14 on solo travel. Doing a web search, I find she runs a co. for women travelers. Here's the website

Interesting reading there.
