Your list is madness itself. You can't compare some of the properties on there. It's like someone saying to a personal shopper "I can't decide between the Dior or H&M". What do you want?

Comments on th Hotels in Paris
- Royal Monceau:Was part of Mandarin Oriental's collection for only one year, and i dont know if the renovations have finished yet. When we visited the lobby the hotel wasnt impressive or 'royal'.
- Hotel Napoleon:Very old, if you can afford other hotels why go there?
- Castille Paris:Nice hotel opposite the Ritz and renovated this year.Convenient location.I like it.
- Renaissance Paris Vendome:contemporary hotel near place vendome.I think that they accept 3 persons only in suites that are 400euros and up.
- Hotel Chateau Frontenac:Nice first class hotel;nothing over the top.
- Villa d Estrees:very little hotel, good service, spacious rooms but lacks some facilities for a 4star hotel.
- Pavillon de la Reine:traditional charming hotel in place des vosges. A good choice if a bit overpriced.
- Relais Christineame as the Pavillon De La Reine, a country style hotel in the in the Saint Germain area.
- Hotel Pont Royal:a bit small rooms, nice decor and convenient location.
- The Lancasterne of the best and priciest boutique hotels in Paris; you cannot fault here.
- Hotel San Regis:A small boutique hotel near Avenue Montaigne;it's good but there are better.
- Hotel Splendid Etoile.same as the frontenac hotel.
- Champs Elysees Plaza Hotel:Mostly an apart-hotel ; lacks in facilities dpt; very spacious rooms thogh
- Hotel le Marquis:a small 4 star hotel in the 7th; not something luxurious but its good.
From the hotels you have listed i would pick the Lancaster, the Castille and the San Regis as they are far better than most of the other hotels listed.
You can also check the undergoing renovations(will be finished by March) 4*L hotel Scribe in the Opera area. www.sofitel.com
Another choice with very spacious rooms will be the Raphael, just off Arc De Triomphe.

Check also some Sofitels in Paris(e.g Le Faubourg) www.sofitel.com

The Dukes hotel in St Jameses, London is a classic. A Jr Suite runs 370 GBP. I think it definitely "captures the true essence" of London.

What is the website for the Castille? I see that it is on Starhotels, but does it have its own website as well.

The Castille's website is www.castille.com but it isnt very useful; the hotel formerly was a sofitel, and now is a Starhotel as well as a member of the preferred hotels & resorts. There is a better description on their site at www.preferredhotels.com

"What about London hotels? Which one is the best of the bunch?"

Based on what criteria??

You're asking an impossible question. For someone with 100USD to spend per night, then obviously Claridge's isn't their best option. For someone with 1000USD then Claridge's might be their best option. But then again they might prefer a more modern property.

What area do you prefer? What style do you prefer? What are you after?

Surely you have looked at the various properties and you prefer one to others?

I still think you should stay at One Aldwych, esp with teens.

but thank you for the comprehensive, all in one place listing of good hotels in both cities!

One Aldwych doesn't have the best location, unless of course you have a thing for The Strand. The decor is naff now. That look is very, very, very over. The thing now is antiques, and rich furnishings in a very white room. Almost a galery look. The focus is on objects and furniture, but not an entirely bland space.

If I were you I'd stay in Mayfair, and if you cah, choose Claridge's or The Connaught. You must have your own opinons.

I know that when I'm looking at hotels, I will see one that I feel more inclined to choose. Have your own opinons!

A gallery look even.

All you're doing now is picking clothes off of a rail and not bothering to try them on.

If you are still insterested in apartments in Paris you might try Welcome2France.com. They deal with upscale properties in Paris. I have not stayed in their apartments yet but have reserved one for April 2006 and have been very impressed with their service so far.

Good luck with your travels and selections. Both London and Paris are fantastic destinations.

"antiques and a white room"--exactly the kind of room to make two teenage boys feel relaxed and comfortable.

The London Sofitel St. James is consistently well reviewed by TA and guidebooks. Not top of the line luxury (you won't get that for $500 and your group in early summer [high season] anyway), but still very good.

In Paris, the Castille sounds like a good bet, also the Sofitel Le Faubourg. FYI, if you decide to consider one or both of the Sofitels, you should sign up for the free Sofitel card, which will give you some discounts, late checkout, points, etc. I know that whenever I check into a Sofitel hotel with my card, I'm automatically upgraded to a better room, occasionally a suite if one is available.

However, for $500 a night, you could probably find a very nice apartment to rent in both cities that would give you more room to spread out and two bathrooms.

The Sofitel Privilege card do not guarantee upgrades, even if a better category room is available. I stayed at the Palm Beach Sofitel and did not receive an upgrade;also stayed at the Sofitel Plaza copenhagen and i was upgraded to a suite. It depends.

I did not post that an upgrade is guaranteed to everyone, but in the last two years, staying at over a dozen Sofitels in the U.S. and Europe, I have always* been upgraded, even when I'm booked in at the very cheapest rate.

*Earlier this year, at the Sofitel Vienna, I was not upgraded by the girl at the front desk. But an hour after I checked in, the front desk manager called to apologize and asked if I would like to be upgraded to a deluxe room and offered to send someone up to help me move.

also, just added the Durley House. It seems very nice, but there are not that many reviews on it.

try 47 Park St..the location can't be beat and the configuration of some of the rooms may suit you and your boys.

Paris - Go to ASTOTEL.COM and choose your own hotel. We stayed at the Bradford Elysees (4 star) a block away from Champ Elysees. We stayed there all the time and we never had any problem and the staff are great. The rooms are big (top floor with elevator) and they have a deck facing the Eiffel Tower. Good Luck
