Luxembourg City
I'm looking for opinions on Luxembourg City. How long would you spend there? How far out of your way would you go to get there? What other destinations would you combine with it? I know several people who say it's one of their favorite cities, and it is a UNESCO site (the city itself). but so far I haven't been able to logically combine it with other trips. So I'm just looking for ideas of whether or not to try to work it into a trip next summer.

It is certainly worth a short stay, nothing more. On our stay there we also spent a considerable amount of time on the Mosel & also visited Maastricht (well worth a visit). Our trip in short, flew in & out of Brussels. Met others in Cologne, wandered/meandered down the Mosel (4 days), Luxembourg w/day trips (3 days), Maastricht (3 days), Oostende (the beach)/Bruges (4 days), back to Brussels (1 night prior to departure, which is plenty). We also visited Namur & Clervaux, Berg Eltz, etc.

Clervaux is an excellent day trip by train. Luxembourg City, though one of the most gorgeous physically in Europe has little to do - one day is more than enough for most - but to see the city divided by a deep gorge running thru it is well worth any detour.
