Lufthansa Pilots On Strike
Its official - the Pilots union for Lufthansa has authorized a strike for higher wages. According to what I read, they will strike every Thursday from Midnight to Friday noon each of the next four weeks. I believe they will limit it at first to flights within Europe. They say a "hotline" has been set up for questions. Does anyone know what this hotline number is???

I received via email a release from a German news source.
It said that the strike of Lufthansa pilots will begin at midnight Thursday. By Friday they will bring flights within Germany to a hald in order to force Lufthansa to meet their demands for a 30% salary increase. The German Rail System will implement special trains. Airline tickets will be valid as rail tickets. Early Friday morning [which it is already in Germany] Lufthansa will operate special flights from Frankfurt to Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich. Intercontinental flights will operate as scheduled.

I concluded from the release that Lufthansa flights that take off in Germany and land in another European city will NOT be operating. Inter continental flights, like between Germany and the US, will be operating as scheduled. But those of you who read German can check the story for yourself.
The German text follows:

Hamburg. Um Mitternacht beginnt der bundesweite Streik der
Lufthansapiloten.
Berlin einrichten. Interkontinetalfluege sollen planmaessig abgewickelt
werden.

Here is a release I copied off of the Lufthansa web site. There are few more details, and a HOTLINE number. The number is in Germany.
at Lufthansa,

Crews of Condor, Condor Berlin and Lufthansa Cargo at all German stations will be on strike between 00.00 hours and 12.00 hours local time on Friday May 4.

Lufthansa will make every effort to continue flying its passengers with a reduced timetable.

Lufthansa will continue operating three-quarters of its intercontinental flights ex Frankfurt up to midday (12.00 hours). All intercontinental flights from Munich, Dusseldorf and Berlin-Tegel will go ahead as scheduled. From 13.00 hours onwards, intercontinental flights ex Frankfurt will also continue normally. But delays can be expected.

Flights operated by CityLine and Team Lufthansa partner airlines will not be affected by the strike.

Further informationen are available here: - on the flight situation at Arrival/Departure.
- at our Call Center (phone +49-1803-803 803)
- by downloading our Questions and Answers brochure for passenger information.

I read today that almost 300 flights were cancelled yesterday affecting 30,000 travelers. I think most of the flights were intra-europe (and mostly intra-Germany at that) and the intercontinental flights (mostly to USA) were not cancelled (late though). Hope this helps.
