I've had some of my own romances in Italy, and in all cases I am still in touch with the men. Therefore I would never think of cheapening them, or betraying my partners, by posting to a bunch of strangers. For that reason I don't think this story is legitimate.

Hi Patrick, yes I eventually did get to Naples and I did like it alot. It is jumping forward in my trip a little bit, but I had the best pizza there in a little place that locals know about, not too many tourists, and I can't think of the name of it, but I had a Margarheta pizza and a beer. Then we went to the covered shopping area which is planned on the one in Milan. It is beautiful. Then sat around on the square and met some nice people, and the fish market was wild. I would recommend Naples to you.

Lucy

Your enthusiasm is infectious. Iwas having second thoughts about Naples as I had heard it was a "violent and crime ridden city." I am glad I found this site where I can get advice for people who have actually been there. I am going in October for three days with my kids 12 and 14. If there any site (i will make sure we sample the pizza) we should not miss.

Patrick

Yes, my name is a nom de plume, and his name has been changed to protect the innocent. I am getting more specific because in Rome the conversations were mundane getting to know you stuff. And Patrick, I have heard all the stories about crime in Naples too, so I was a little afraid of going there, but I was assured that if I just kept low key and didnt wear jewelry and flaunt money I would be fine, in the daytime at least.
It is a beautiful city, looks like Vienna, which comes from its varied history. Beautiful ironwork on buildings, and friendly locals. One local woman warned me to hold my purse in front of me. I would suggest you take your children to the excellent museum. And if you can, a concert or opera in their opera house which I am told his one of the best acoustically in the world.

Anyway, for those of you who want to know: I said that was fine, I would miss him, and reminded him that we had planned to go to Pompeii the next day. So he said, well, lets go now. We got back into the car and he drove over the mountains the back way to Pompeii city. We went in the back way to the Pompeii grounds and started with the arena area. We climbed up the arena and walked around the perimeter. Beautiful views and nice breeze. Then we met a little dog that was limping on three legs, I gave him one of my granola bars and Giancarlo gave him the rest of his aqua minerale. We strolled up the streets of Pompeii noticing how modern the sewage systems were, with even lead pipes that had carried water to the homes and stores. And raised walkway stones so you wouldnt get wet in the streets. It took America until the 1900s in some places to think of paving streets and installing public plumbing. We had a little lunch in the cafeteria on the grounds, which wasnt too bad, took pictures of the bordello and other shops and palace
homes, then exited and took a cab back to the car. It was a really nice if long day and he was very attentive and funny and charming. Back over the mountain shortcut to my hotel, where he dropped me off and told me he would call the next day. I reminded him that I would be checking out and moving on to Sorrento. Then he left into the night, so I had a light dinner in my room looking at the moonlight on the sea from my veranda. Then, sipping wine, thought of all that I should have said and done with him. Then I started packing for Sorrento

Lucy,

Lets go back to last weekend--what were you doing in Carlsbad. Since Friday was the origin, in Carlsbad, of the Avon Breast Cancer 60 mile walk??

We'll have to assume that you walked all of those 60 miles, dictating into your tape recorder while your blisters festered and then typed it (the novella) up on your laptop in the tent (that you put up after each day's 20 miles).

And by the way, what did YOU think of the book "THE ITALIAN AFFAIR". Since I just finished the book, I think that YOU are the author!! Same style, different men (or were they??)
