I'm trying to find a fairly comprehensive list of the men -- I don't know if there are any emminent women -- depicted in the statuary around the outside of the Louvre.

There was a nice collection I found by googling that contained the photos of 55 or so -- do you know of another source?

you're another person like me. I found the courtyard (the former jousting field) with the statues in the little alcoves more fascinating than the inside of the Louvre, and enjoyed spending time sitting outside there. Fortunatey I brought binoculars and could recognize some names as famous French philosophers and personages.

And cant wait to visit again on this upcoming trip.

There's a cafe up on the 2nd floor (I think) where you can sit outside and view the statues while you enjoy a coffee. I'm sorry I can't remember which wing it is in.

(I'm pleased too, that others were interested. I was half-expecting to get slammed for such a request.)

I found a website that said Lafayette was there; it even had a photo of his statue (not the equestrian one that had to be moved for the Pyramid, but a standing one, just like these others).

Guess I'll have to investigate further, in person, this fall.
