ok..I took the plunge and bought something on e-bay. It was only $40 so I'm not too concerned and it will save me worrying about knock-offs etc. in Spain. The item is advertised as brand new black leather LV wallet. Multicolor, monogram lettering. It is black with colored writing on it. It comes with a duster and box. When I get it, how will I know it's not fake?
I'll save the LOEWE and other good leather shopping for moi! Thanks for input though. I learned a lot!

Loewe can't rival LV. Loewe is very Spanish, and is too traditional, their ready to wear collections are boring, and so are their leather goods!

Did you already buy it? Or did you just bid? I can check it out for you if you'd like.

I do agree Loewe can't really rival LV and also the other way around. It's apples and oranges. Both great, but Loewe is a little less commercial in my mind.

bashful-

That is not a real LV. I asked my sister - though she wasn't able to view the picture, she did say that LV only makes a rectangular wallet in the colored monogram. The photo appears to show a wallet that is more square.

Also, she said there should be trim in the natural cowhide tan color.

My dear, you hardly need to ask your sister - that is absolutely hideous (even more so than the original), and far too shiny. Also the seller never makes any claims that it's genuine!

m_kingdom:

bashful just wanted to know if it was real or not. The best person to ask would be someone who works with these products on a daily basis.

Since I am hardly qualified to recite from memory the details of LV's offerings - and how to tell what's real and what's not (and my sister is) - I figured I would help bashful out, rather than offer my opinion on something I am not very familiar with.

As to whether the wallet is to your particular taste, that's neither here nor there.

Depending on how old your granddaughter is, this wallet seems more appropriate for a young girl than the traditional LV type wallets. I'm sure you didn't expect the real thing for $40 and I'm sure your g.d. will be thrilled/

bashful I would price LV at your local store and then price it when you go to Spain.
I would skip the fake..besides the obvious reasons...the quality is just not there...you do get what you pay for IMHO..
Whatever you decide that is really a very thoughtful gesture on your behalf...Have a great trip and post your report!

chepar...about 6 months ago I was at Hermes picking up something. While waiting a lady strolled into the store with what she thought was a Kelly bag......apparantly had picked it up on Ebay for a "song". She was telling the sales clerk about her purchase on Ebay...The clerk all of a sudden went white and told the lady what she had purchased was a fake. I felt bad for that lady.....

My dear, the point of having a LV purse is to have a real one, don't waste your money on a fake for various reasons!

My grand daughter is 17..today she wants a LV wallet, tomorrow it'll be a crocodile purse or a peasant blouse or jeans from the sally ann. I'm not going to spend $200+ on a designer wallet and this looked cute and fun and I hope she won't think it's hideous. I hope it'll make her smile. That's it. No teaching her how to be a fashion diva, no stressing (for her or for me!) over paying a fortune for something that'll be left at her girlfriend's house. Just a fun gift for a sweet girl.

Here, here, Bashful..well said. m-k2 , perhaps you should take a page out of her book. Sometimes it doesn't take an original prada, gucci or sander to make someone happy. Or maybe it does .

LV is part of the LVMH conglomerate. LV does not ever sell there bags at a discount. They destry the merchandise rather than put it on sale ask anyone who works there. Go to LVMH subsidiary: http://www.eluxury.com/ to price their wallets. Their wallets are over 200 US quite expensive.

Feedback on EBAY is a good gauge but do most people really know what they are buying. If you buy on EBAY assume it is fake and be thrilled if it isnt.

This is NOT true. The LV boutique in the King of Prussia Mall in suburban Philadelphia has SALES. I only live about 5 miles away, and have seen items on sale in the store over the years. For example, a few years ago the boutique was offering a 10% discount on select pieces of luggage and handbags.

I also see shoes on sale on a regular basis.

I have also seen items on sale at the LV boutique in Nice, France. In fact, my friend, Debby, bought a handbag on sale at the store when we were staying at the Negresco.

"Sometimes it doesn't take an original prada, gucci or sander to make someone happy. Or maybe it does"

A simple high street purse would be preferable to a fake designer one. One is honest, and not pretentious, the other isn't.

Let's address the sales issue: Louis Vuitton has a classic line - the monogram luggage (among others) - the products in the classic line never go on sale as they aren't changed from season to season. The bags/accesories that are produced just for one season do go in an end of season sale, as do the ready to wear collections.

On a separate note, Prada often holds items back, and they appear in a sale two seasons forward.

Sorry, slag, but you are wrong. I have seen the LV monogram Keepall, which I would call part of the "classic" collection, on sale.

I really don't care, as I don't shop at Louis Vuitton. But, I am just stating a fact. Since the King of Prussia Mall is where I do most of my shopping, I walk past the LV boutique at least twice a week. I see "sale" tags on items in the store all the time. In fact, they just had a sale on LV monogramed agendas last month.

You'll find that they are either an end of line (discontinued) or an unpopular shape that has also been discontinued - they will never ever have trunks, or classic handbags in the sale... The same way you're never going to get an Hermes Kelly in the sale!

"slag", well my dear, what can I say?

The Hermes Kelly bag is passe. The Birkin bag is in. How 1972 of you, darling.

The LV monogram Keepall certainly is not an outdated piece. It is still being sold by LV. You are wrong, darling, get over it.
