Patrick, we just returned from a trip that included several nights in Villefrance (Welcome Hotel). June in France could be hot (was when we were there) so I would definitely opt for the A/C. Villefranche was just as charming and relaxing as it was advertised to be. There are enough cafes and restaurants (I recommend La Mere Germain for a nice dinner!) to keep you from repeating in a week. Plenty of shops and markets, even a small self-service laundromat. June would be cruise ship season, but they all go away at the end of the day. The beach has a sandy section, and transportation access is good. Villefranche is vertical so be ready to get a workout getting around on foot. Good luck with your planning, like others said - I would return to Villefranche tomorrow.
