looking for hotels in paris

Looking for a inexpensice but nice hotel in paris for mid july for 2, close to the museumems and tower and the tourist things. Something out of the way not touristy but staff speaks emglish. The Madison was one suggestion. Has anybody stayed there?

You'd better give a nightly budget b/c the Madison is more than I can afford, therefore I would not call it 'inexpensive'.

Hotel Monge is another option. It is air-conditioned, very clean with modern ammenities, and the owner speaks English. We paid about 100 euro per night last July and were very satisfied there. We even had a room with a balcony overlooking the street (by request).

It is located in the Latin Quarter very near Notre Dame and other sites. It honestly doesn't matter where you stay in Paris since the metro makes it very easy to get anywhere in the city quickly.

Hotel Monge is a good suggestion for the summertime. We paid 84 euros for a room looking out over the Roman arena (non-street side).

Great location, very pleasant hotel and staff.

I'm not sure there is such a thing as "not touristy" in Paris, especially in July and given the fact that you want to be near tourist things.

We stay at either Hotel le Clement or Hotel la Sorbonne. The Sorbonne is less expensive at 80 euros double. Hotel Clement was 126 euros double the last time I looked. They are both near several Metro stations and within walking distance of Notre Dame, the Louvre, the d'Orsay, etc.

You might want to check the http://www.france.com web site. They have a terrific hotel search engine. You can search by price, name or location. They include reviews of the hotels by people who have actually stayed there. We always book through them and highly recommend the service.

The two hotels above are not luxury hotels (not at that price), but the staff at each place is very friendly and they do speak English. There are lots of restaurants around both of them.

If you want to be a bit further out, you might consider the Marais or something out by the Eiffel Tower.

Good luck.
