Looking for help from Dubliners

Does anyone have any information on the Jury's Inn Parnell Street? The website says it is due to open in August, and they are offering great rates. I just booked a room for 2 nights in late September for 79 euro/night. Are the rates low because of the location? A common thread in this forum seems to be that the area north of the Liffey is not so nice. The hotel is located at Moore Street Plaza, Parnell Street. Thanks for any advice.

Tallboy, I'm from Dublin but have been living outside it for several years. It's been quite a while since I've been around Parnell St but in my own opinion, I wouldn't be keen on staying around there. It's located off our main Dublin city street, O'Connell Street, and I personally hate O'Connell Street and would be wary walking around after dark. If it were me I'd go for somewhere south of the river.

Tallboy,

I think you posted another thread mentioning this hotel. It will be brand new and ok as its a busy shopping area in the day. Late at night take a taxi back here if you are on a tour etc. I don't walk this area late at night and the local pubswould not be a place I would send myself or a tourist. I would actually stay with this ifthe rate is good just watch your bag outside on O'Connell Street late night. The restaurants and pubs are m,ostly located south of the river. I can't think of one restaurant around here other than fast food. DON'T eat at the Bangcock Cafe on the other end of parliament street. It may have been closed down but now I will check. It was the first thai place in Dublin and it's gross food, the place I felt was dirty and they got busted by the health board a fe moths ago for the kitxhen...enough said.

There is a good daytime eating option called the Epicurian Food Hall on Liffey street not far away. It is like a food court but no fast food. There is Indian, Mexican (I love this one), Bagels, Cakes, Kebabs etc.

Overall I think you will be fine there. It's worth the good rates and just watch yourself late at night like anywhere. Gardiner Street I feel is worse.

Thanhs SiobhanP and Jake. I've got some inquiries out to some reccomended places(number 31, hotel st.george) and if they don't work out, I'll probably go with Jury's Christchurch. It's a little more expensive but maybe worth it for peace of mind. Thanks again.

I think the hotel St George area is worse. I am not saying don't stay in Jrys Parnell St. I think its ok and I would do it myself if I was not travelling alone. I think 79 is excellent. If you ahve oither alternatives do not go for Gardiner St. (No offence to those who stay here) I am not crazy about that street at night and access. We had a late night out last sat with some old friends visiting and we were looking for a bank machine with money (Brinks are still on strike so some machines hav no cash) and its a bit mad and loud at 3am. I feel perfectly safe with myself and my fella but not alone and I do know the area and stay alert.

It's upyo you but I don't think its sio bad.

Siobhanp- Thanks for more info, but I changed plans again and booked into the Mercer Hotel, by Stephens Green. Seems to be a better fit overall.
