Looking for accommodation in Ravello.

Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap accommodation, in Ravello? My girlfriend and I are spending a few days there, at the beginning of September. We're not looking for anything particularly flash - a nice simple room will do. Earlier today, I booked a room in Vernazza at Albergo Barbara, for four nights, with seaview, for 45 Euros, a night - this was a suggestion I found on the Cinque Terre website, and was courtesy of Rick Steves. It was the first call I'd made, too. I rushed out to try and get my hands on a copy of "Rick Steves' Italy", without any luck. Can anyone pass onto me his suggestions for places to stay in Ravello,or any other places for that matter? Similar price range as above. Thanks, Gavin.

In July of 2000 we stayed at Hotel Parsifal in Ravello. It is a ex-convent and only has about 19 rooms.

The hotel is very charming and clean. The view from the rooms are breathtaking. You can see the whole Amalfi coast from your window. The owner Antonio is great and helpful. We woke up in the morning to the smell of croissants baking.

Their website is www.hotelparsifal.com. You can check out their views on the website. I have the hotel picture in my dining room and look at it every day.

I single room with breakfast is 60euros and a double is 110euros (just got that from their website) I know its more than your 45 euros, but I don't know of any that inexpensive. I was afraid to stay their because it was so inexpensive, but someone booked it for me so I had no choice. I would go back there next time I go back to Ravello.

It's practically impossible to find a room for two in Ravello proper during high season for much under 90 Euros per night, bed and breakfast. Try Hotel Toro (on the net, they advertise doubles for 101 Euros) and Hotel Villa Amore, a bit cheaper. Both are small, cute two stars properties, in Ravello proper, no air conditioning, but have private facilities.

Maria: I looked at the website for the Parsifal. How far (in yards or meters) is the hotel from the Duomo of Ravello? Can you walk there? Is the hotel on a noisy intersection? Does it have air conditioning? How far is the bus stop? Did you try dinner there?

GAC,

The hotel is walking distance to the Duomo. We walked there. It is located right when you get into town -you have to drive right by it. When you first pull up, it doesn't look like as magical as it does when you get past the entrance. Then, it looks just as magical as the pictures on the website. Everytime I look at them, I feel like I'm there.

In answer to your other questions, no I did not hear any noise from the street from my hotel room. I did eat dinner there, and the food was good. They actually cooked only 2 different entrees and you would choose.

I believe the bus stops right in front of the hotel. You do not need the bus to go into town because you can walk to everything. I think we did get the bus once to go down to Amalfi to catch the boat to Capri. We did have a driver to take us everywhere else. He was great. We also had our own tour guide who escorted us. The two of them took us everywhere we wanted to go. I would highly recommend them. They felt like family!

Also the owner of Hotel Parsifal was very nice.

Sorry GAC forgot about the air-conditioning. Yes I believe there was a window unit.

Also if you go ask for a corner room. I'll have to try to remember my room number. It had a large window and if you stood in front of it all you would see was you and the coast behind you. Made for some great pictures.

Hotel Parsifal is full for almost all of September, however, I have just booked a double room for four nights at Hotel Villa Amore, at 60 Euros, per night. Thanks again, for your advice.

Gavin: That is a super rate! And for a double room! I'll look forward to reading your comments. You will enjoy the isolation and silence of Villa Amore. When there, check out the Villa Maria, 50 yards down the footpath (on the main path towards Villa Cimbrone): its restaurant is considered one of the finest in Ravello (I ate there, and can confirm).
