Looking for a Rome apartment for around E500 per week

There are only two of us and we are not terribly fussy, but we'd like something decent. I'm just wondering if any of you can give me a recommendation for a place you have stayed and liked. I've been looking at VRBO because I know with no middleman fee things will be less expensive. But, I'd also like some other options.

This is a very last minute trip and we'll be looking at a low season rental price. We are walkers and can walk all day. We don't need to be in the heart of tourist central as long as there is good public transportaion. In fact, we'd probably prefer a real neighborhood with small grocers, markets, very casual tratorias, a bit of ambience etc. We want a real bed, decent lighting, a good heating system since it will be middle of the winter, comfortable chairs, a usable kitchen, and quiet if possible.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks much.

http://www.cross-pollinate.com/
is a site that lists Rome B&Bs and apartments, and has a budget focus.

Christmas to Epiphany is not low season, but instead high season, if your Rome rental is slated to fall during that period.

Thanks. I'll check all of these out. Yes, I've realized that the first part of our time in Italy will be high season. I'd be looking at just after the the high season rates because that would put us in Rome at the end of our trip so we'll already be in the city for our flight home (the plan we've discovered we are most comfortable with).

If realistically you don't need cooking facilities, try www.apartment-saint-peters.com

If anyone is following this in the future, I did find several that seemed very nice, are in good locations, and met my budget requirements (well, if I upped it a tad). I am sure there are others out there too, but these are just the ones that were available in my timeframe. Here are the links.

Really nice place west of Piazza Navona.

Nice place in the quiet part of Trastevere.

And, the one we ended up with. Actually I am not sure what regular prices are for this one because were offered a discounted rate for filling a last minute cancellation, so this one actually met my budget needs.

I'll let everyone know how this turns out.

Wow, that place looks gorgeous and it's a great location - I hate to ask how much it is.
