Looking for a Hotel in Rouen
Does anyone know of a hotel in Rouen. We need just one night there & are looking for a place that is central & maybe has a place to park & has an elevator or not too many steps. DO you know if any of them include breakfast. Looking to spend under 90 euro. would definitly consider a B&B if there are any in that city that are in center.

I haven't stayed there overnight, but here is a good French web site with a fairly extensive list of hotels in Rouen, by ranking and with booking info
http://www.gaf.tm.fr/en/france/hotel/normandie/seinemaritime/rouen.php

Even in Rouen, the 3-star hotels seem within your budget, but definitely 2-stars. The problem you'll have to figure out is the ones very central will not be as good with parking, of course--central Rouen is pedestrian only in parts. Look for a big P in the amenties icon for parking (or a car for garage) -- Hotels Bordeaux and Quebec look like possibilities.

yes, that is one of my favorite web sites. You can use it for any city in France (it helps to know the name of the departement, but they have a map so you can do trial and error).

Go to the home, www.gaf.tm.fr
Pick your language flag.
Select "hotels" (or "hostels" if you want, it is the only one I know for all of France on that, or whatever)
Pick your region from the map (eg, "bretagne")
Pick the departement of the city you want (Quimper is in "Finistere")
Click on the city name to get the complete list (note that the ones appearing are not the complete list)

Here's the final URL you get doing that process for Quimper
http://www.gaf.tm.fr/en/france/hotel/bretagne/finistere/quimper.php
Clara,

We had stayed at the Hotel Le Viking
(2 star) in Rouen many years ago.

The location was very good, on the quai overlooking the Seine, and only a 1 block walk from the beginning of the "pedestrian only" center entrance.

The hotel was quite acceptable, our balcony overlooking the river was a plus (as long as you will be visiting on a weekend or are an "early riser")--weekday morning traffic can be intense. They have a parking garage beneath the hotel. It is a modern facility with elevator service.

The web site given to you by Christina is an excellent one, and I'm sure you have noticed that hotel prices for even three and four star hotels are modest.

The majority will fit within your price range.

My recommendation would be to select a hotel on the right bank, within short walking distance of the medevial center.

Plus--pick an accomodation that gives written directions with a map on their web site to assist in locating the hotel. The streets surrounding the pedestrian-only area can get a bit confusing without benefit of good driving directions.

There is a little restaurant on the Place du Vieux-Marche (to the right when facing the main entrance to the Church commemorating St. Joan of Arc)that served the best veal in camembert cream sauce we have ever tasted.

Many hotels in Rouen are currently offering "Buy one night---get one night free" on weekends.
You can see some details at the Viking's web site at: http://www.leviking.com.
to assist in locating the hotel.
Hotel Bristol,in the pedestrian area across from the Palais de Justice, floodlit at night--gorgeous building. No parking but with luck you can park outside on the narrow street until 8am.Within easy walking distance of beautiful Horloge and St. Joan's chapel and market square.

It's been a while (October 1997), but we stayed at a Frantour (chain) hotel for under $100 that is one block to the historic site of Jean d'Arc's execution, just a couple blocks further to the cathedral Monet painted so many times and to the Palais du Justice. The hotel has a parking lot (under the hotel, reached by a car elevator! they will help you negotiate), a hotel elevator and breakfast (which was supposed to be extra but they didn't charge us!). It's definitely chain decor (think Holiday Inn Express) but clean and the staff spoke English.
