Looking for a HOTEL in PARIS for young couple for under $100/night

I'm looking for a nice hotel in Paris for a short weekend for my boyfriend and myself. Don't want to spend more than $100 per night. Any recommendations? What area in Paris should we try to stay in?

You'll probably want to stay in the 5th or 6th arr., since most things you'll want to see will be walkable and there are some nice areas there. We stopped in to look at the Hotel des Grandes Ecoles on the rue Cardinal Lemoine when we were in Paris a couple of weeks ago because it had been recommended. It looked great. Nice rooms and a garden court. It's become popular, so book at least a month or two in advance. Will probably run you 600F or more--perhaps just over $100, but perhaps worth it. The book Cheap Sleeps in Paris has probably already been recommended to you; it's helpful. Good luck.

We stayed at the Opera Cadet for 11 days last Christmass. It's in the 9th arrondisment. The hotel is in walking distance of the Paris Opera, Folies Bergere, Primtemps the great shopping store. They are located on a market Street, which means the street is closed on food market days. They are a half block from a metro stop which will get you everywhere. The rooms are lovely, newly redone in danish modern. There is a garden court, breakfast roon, and bar. Breakfast is included. We booked with American air Fly Away at 79 dollars per person per night. It was worth the extra money, it is on a quite street and everything works, elevators, heat/air, plumbing ect.You can book direct also. The staff went out of thier way to help us find cheap restraunts and how to get to Versi and Fountbleau on our own for cheap.
Hope you have a great trip we found Paris and the Parisians delightful.

we took rick steve's advice and stayed at the grande hotel leveque on the rue cler (7th arrond). our room was less than $60 a night. it was very basic, clean, and the toilet facilities are down the hall for most rooms. the staff was friendly and helpful (the chambermaid sings while she works). the location is what makes it a great deal, it is on a non-touristy pedestrian street of shops selling everything from wine to cheese to meat to jewelry. it's near the eiffel tower and walking distance from the champs elysee. if you don't care about a fancy room, this is a good bet.

An earlier message recommended Hotel des Grandes Ecoles -- we stayed there in mid-May and really liked it. The price for a double w/private shower/T overlooking the garden entrance was 510 francs ($92, at the time). Run by a mother and daughter - the grandmama is a treat: A bouncy "Bonjour!" greets everyone who comes through the door. The location is excellent: 75 Rue du Cardinale Lemoine, which is a short street running diagonally from the Seine, not far south of Notre Dame. Many interesting, inexpensive restaurants and patisseries practically around the corner, and the neighborhood is great for walking. 2 Metro stops nearby: Cardinale Lemoine and Monge. Phone: 011-33-1-43-26-79-23. Fax: 011-33-1-43-25-28-15. They take Visa. You'll like it.

I stayed at the libertel hotel directly across from the gare d'austerlitz. It was about $70 US/night.
That included breakfast, which we didn't eat and was deducted from the bill.

A good option: Campanile Bastille, at le Marais, rue du Chemin Vert, 300 meters from the Bastille. You can contact them through Internet, www.campanile.fr
The price for a two bed room with bain and closet is FF 420, and breakfast some FF 30 per person. My wife and I stayed there twice, and we loved everything, from the hotel to the neighboorhood.

My husband & I stayed at the Hotel Amelie (2 stars) in the 7th arr.. It is in a residential neighborhood and a stone's throw from the Eiffel Tower. We had a private bathroom but breakfast was not included - we went to the grocer's, bakery & fruit stand and ate on a bench by the Eiffel Tower - you can't beat that view!
