At the risk of sounding like a broken record (you'll find other posts asking this and others of us replying if you do a search on "Edinburgh,") We have stayed at the same place our last three trips: The Dunedin Guest House. They have a Web site, but I'm not sure of the URL. I believe they're on smoothhounds. However, their e-mail address is: [email protected]. The owners, Marsella & David, are fabulous and their home is a historically-registered 4-star with all rooms en suite (bathrooms included). She serves a cooked-to-order breakfast which is included in the price (I can't remember exactly what we paid, and it differs for different times of the year, but I know it comes in at well under $100 per room). I found them through Rick Steves.
Please post after you go to Edinburgh and let us know how you loved it. It's a wonderful city with warm, fun people. I can't wait to get back!

Hi Kathy,
I'm also going to Edinburgh later this month! I just booked a room at the Castle View Guest house which I found out is right in the city center. I have never been there before, but I read many good things about it on this web site. Many of the rooms have views of the castle. The web site is www.castleviewgh.co.uk. The only drawback I read was that you have to climb 5 flights of stairs to get to the rooms. But I figure, I'll be away from my gym here at home, but I'll still be getting a workout! It is very reasonably priced too. Feel free to e-mail me about anything else regarding trip preparations.
Vanessa

We stayed at the Castle View Guest House in June and really liked it a lot. It is a 4 star but not expensive. The room we had was quite large but we had 2 adults and 2 children so we had to have a large room. From our room we could sit in the bay window and see Edinburgh Castle. The B&B is a half a block off of Prince's Street in a great location. The breakfast was very good and hearty. Yes, the stairs can be a pain, particularly with luggage, but it was worth it for the location, cleanliness, and general niceness of the room. Good luck, though, because they do book early.
Hi Kathy, we just returned from Edinburgh, and positively ADORED that wonderful city! It is my very very all time favorite smaller city! We stayed in the "Old Town" section which was very atomspheric and unique. I loved the "Closes" there... If I were you, I would try to stay as close to the "Old Town" area, as possible....as near to Prince's srteet as you can get, IMO.
Judy
