Long weekend in Switzerland - where to go?

We live in Munich and have a couple of long weekends in June and are thinking about taking the train to Switzerland. Where should we go: Engelberg, Locarno or Montreaux? Other places that got my attention are Zermatt (although I think it may be too far for a short trip), Geneva, Gstaad and Chur/Davos/Arosa. Any suggestions? We've been to Lucerne, Bern and the Jungfrau region. Thanks!!

I would like to suggest Lugano. It's beautiful, reasonably priced, there's a lot to do, and the food is good. It's known as the Swiss Riviera, and with good reason.

Hello Peep,

I'm just writing to extend an invitation to the GTG in Zuoz on the weekend of 13 June. If that's one of the weekends that you have free, it would be an ideal chance to explore that region with some like-minded travellers.

If you do a search on "Engadin GTG," you'll find the thread.

Maybe see you there!

Since you've done the Jungfrau, so to speak, I'd suggest either Ticino or Lac Leman -- one French speaking and the other Italian. Take your choice; you can't go wrong. Do some searches here to read our raves about the Lavaux (Lac Leman) and lakes Maggiore and Lugano. J.

Hi Peep!

Can't really help you to decide where to go. I love all places you mention, but do have slight preferences either for the Gstaad area or Arosa (long trip up though).
Skip Chur (no hikes there ;o) and Davos (a town in the mountains).
Geneva is just another city, not very Swiss, but international and over all, very expensive. Might also be too far just for the weekend from Munich (assuming you'll be taking the train).

And then, of course, I do second the suggestion of coming to our Engadine GTG! Great area for hikes and yummy food.

Hi! I vote Engelberg. The town seems worth a look, then take the Engelberg BET up to Trubsee for a lovely picnic by the lake. Continue up by gondola over an expansive glacier to Kleintitlis for wonderful views (this is in a rotating gondola with 360 degree views). Total travel time up the mountain from Engelberg is just 45 minutes!
