No one is inelgible but some Brits here would think so because they never do day trips say if they live well away from London - but Brits are more than welcome to give their opinions of what day trips a tourist in London may take and their favorites!

I sort of considered myself ineligible because I live here (North Yorkshire) but am happy to give my views. I'm very well travelled in my own country.
Of course most places deserve far more than a day, but that shouldn't mean they should be discounted for a one day visit.
1. York
2. Bath
3. Oxford
4. Canterbury
5. Hampton Court
6. Portsmouth (the Naval Dockyard is an amazing day out)
7. Cambridge
The most 'ignored' place by tourists is definitely Suffolk (where I was born and raised). Not good for a day trip but for anyone who has a few days to spare and wants to go somewhere beautiful, historic and minus the tourists then this is your place! Lavenham, Long Melford, Clare, Cavendiah, Orford etc etc- absolutely wonderful.

Morgana - I did a day trip to Lavenham and in was great - easy by train + bus from London and Lavenham is so so exceptional - too bad off the radar off many tourists. Few towns have so many half-timbered edifices! I loved walking along the abandoned rail line into town from where we got off the bus - just a gorgeous place that folks who have done the more popular day trips may consider - thanks for posting.
