London: Which is cheaper?

Hi,
I can fly into Gatwick, Heathrow or Stansted. For each, what does it cost to get into downtown London, say Victoria Station.? How do you go? National Rail? Thanks for your help. - Cliff

Definitely not Stansted. If you need to get to Victoria Station, then definitely Gatwick. You can take National Rail or the Gatwick Express. National Rail is cheaper (£8 I think) and just a few minutes slower than the Gatwick Express (£16 I think). Heathrow is convenient for tube access - you can be in central London in about an hour. You can't, however, get to Victoria Station without changing tube trains.

Depends how you want to get in...cheapest is by far LHR if you take the tube...can be as little as £1.40 depending on what alternatives you choose......LGW is something around £13 if you take the regular train, about 20% more expensive on Gatwick express. Heathrow Express is about the same as Gatwick Express. Stansted is most inconvenient as you have to take a coach I believe to the train. (although not sure of the last)...by far cheapest can be Heathrow.

Yeah, the tube from Heathrow is the cheapest option.

No you don't....the station is in the terminal building. It's an easy jounrey, just a bit longer than the other airports...but really depends which bit of London you are going to...

you posted "say Victoria Station" which seems that was only a 'for instance'.

Stansted is fine IF it gets you a better fare/better flight schedules. Otherwise it is the least convenient.

LHR is cheapest - but not fastest or easiest if Victoria is your ultimate destination.

Gatwick is the fastest and easiest to Victoria but does cost about £11 more than LHR on the Express and about £6 more on the regular train service.

I personally would NOT choose my flight that way. I'd choose the flight that costs less and/or has the best routing.

But - is Victoria isn't your ultimate destination?

Thank you all - and if you have more tips, please provide them!My wife & I are going to fly from Venice Italy for a 3 and 1/2 day weekend but not until next May/June. I am already excited and surfing for fares. We were in London years ago and stayed in the Kensington area. We like museums, the theatre, parks and jogging trails. Recommendations?
