The only pub walk I went on was the Along the Thames walk in November 2006. It was a rainy night and it was a very long walk (we found out later that he took us to a couple of extra pubs because he wanted to get out of the rain). I enjoyed it immensely and it was a lot of fun. It had some really lovely views across and along the Thames.
Note to self: do not for any reaon, glance at your plane tickets very briefly before your pub crawl, and believe that your plane departs for CDG at 1:00 pm the next day and that you have plenty of time to pack the morning of said departure, and then go on a pub crawl with extra stops, imbibe happily, only to wobble back to your room around 2:00 a.m, decide to doublecheck your tickets and discover that your flight leaves at 11:00 A.M. and that you must now pack in an inebriated state in order to hop the Tube and be at the airport by 9:00 A.M. at the latest. I'm just sayin'.

Are you looking to book a trip with a guide? We have only taken them on our own as we prefer to make up out own timeline. There is a great one in the Frommer's Walking Book for London that takes in the oldest pub along with others in the area that are unique. Rick Steve's book has a suggestion for a Circle Line Pub tour - that is a challange to make through all the stops on the Circle Line. And if you want to find good pubs in any area - http://www.fancyapint.com/ is a great resource. We found several great pubs in the area we were staying that we would have never known about if not for doing some research before we left.

Keith, my experience is dated, but years ago we did the Thames and the Chelsea pub walks. IMHO the Thames was more scenic (Heck, it's on the Thames!) but a pretty good argument is that you may already hit some of that area by foot, hop on/off bus, or tour boat. In other words you could probably hit those pubs on your own.
By contrast, the Chelsea took us into neighborhoods and around bends and corners that we wouldn't have walked (or stumbled) by.

I think you should read about each one and choose the one you want. I took the Along the Thames pub walked and enjoyed it. We stopped in two or three pubs and ended by the George (the tour didn't go in).
I think the Literary or Westminster by Gaslight look more interesting. The pub walk along the Thames spent too much time in the pubs as we had drinks in each pub. I'd rather spend more time hearing commentary and seeing more. You can always spend time in a pub.
