London/UK Telephone directory

I have a question to Londoners. Is there a web site in UK where I can go and find out who a telephone numner belongs to? I need to know the address of a person. I have telephone number like 44208654xxxx and 44208272xxxx

You used to be able to through 192.com, but 'reverse search' for a name or an address from phone number is now illegal in UK after revision of Data Protection Act. So I'm afraid you can't. The only thing you can do is to phone the number and ask.

And besides - a lot of people in the UK are ex-directory (unlisted) so even 192.com didn't work that well.

Just phone them.

Thank you, Alec and Janis, for taking time out to reply. Obviously the easiest way of getting the address would be calling and asking them, but for the reasons I cannot disclose publicly, that would not be possible. But if I know the name of the city 020 8654 XX XX is located in, that would be very helpful.

This all sounds a bit spooky to me. Alec, I hope you've not just given a professional hitman his first clues to finding his target!

Xenos, I did not want to show my dirty laundry, but I am concerned Alec may feel that he unwittingly aided a professional hitman. Alec, if you are curious as to why I am pursuing this, you could email me to [email protected]. I appreciate your help.

No, I am not, and the info I gave is freely avialable on the net. Just put in the area and local code on Google.uk and you get a list of business establishments and their addresses. What you cannot get anymore is the identity of the individual subscriber, by decoding the final xxxx in your examples.

Most BT landlines have an area code which could locate the area, but it is impossible to get the address, but you
could say to directory enquiries to
confirm the address.
